My mod budget can afford me one of these this year. Any advice as to which one would be the better mod to get? My SS mechanical wise is stock mind you.

Definetly lid first. Much better gain. This one is so easy that even I can answer it!
Good luck

Hey, thanks for helping a rookie. However, my next question then would be, any particular make of lid better then the other?

They are all pretty much equal. I like SLP because of the service and the way the company is run.
And you are very welcome! Happy to help where I can.
Here is my suggestions for helping a stock car with a good start on fairly simple bolt on mods.
1. Air Box 2. Cat back exhaust 3. MAF Ends 4. Shock tower Brace
If you have stock suspension, there is a lot you can do, depending on what you want to do with your car.

Don't listen to Dan, he's a secret Corvette owner. I'm happy with the Direct-Flo lid from LS! Motorsports. Good quality, design and fit, and reasonably priced.

MTI's clear air box is pretty cool, it allows you to see the air filter and inside the mass air flow sensor. the clear ones will run you around $199.00.

Just installed the Fast Toys Ram Air system. It seems pretty cool as well. There is some good literature on it at installuniversity.com
