I made my first runs ever on a dragstrip Friday night up at New England Dragway in Epping New Hampshire. I ran the car with the mods in my sig and made no changes to the car at the track ( didn't lower rear tire pressures etc.). I made 3 passes with the 1st pass actually being my best.

R/T--.670
60'--2.269
330--5.929
1/8--8.894
MPH--83.18
1000--11.410
1/4--13.523
MPH--106.60

For a 1st time ever run I was pretty pleased with the result. From what I've seen of other runs, this seems to be on the quick side of average for a stock car. With my mods however, I think there's a 13.1 or 13.2 hiding in there somewhere if I could learn to launch the dern thang properly. My reaction times and 60' times all stunck, but many other racers came over afterwards and said the car makes a very strong top-end charge. I got a little wheelspin off the line, but burned second and got 3rd gear scratch. After about 40 mph, this thing seems to wake up and pull like a freight train.

Whaddya think ??

Great runs .... your 60' time is right there with the rest of us.

Are you on F1's or the optional g-Force KD's.

Thanks !!

I'm on the F1's. The general consensus at the track was that just about ANY tire is better than the F1. I don't necessarily agree with that. There's certainly better tires for racing, but I think the F1's are a pretty decent compromise between all-out road grip and other factors like wear and road noise. My car handles like it's on rails and stays firmly planted in the turns, even those fun off-camber decreasing radius ones.

My second pass was with a guy from Maine in a bone stock '00 A4 Z28 with optional 3.23 gears. His first pass was a 13.8 at 102 mph. He then dropped his rear tire pressure from 34 psi to 20 psi and his run with me was a 13.319 at 103 mph. He killed me off the line and he had 1.999 60' time, which was really great. Man...those A4's honk big-time. I ran a 13.554 at 106.25 mph in that pass. He told me after that he saw me closing in, but I just didn't have enough track to pull around. Oh well...

Thanks again,

Andy

A 13.5 for your first time is great. Remember, that's the average best result for the SS achieved by experienced car magazine test drivers, who do quarter mile runs day in and day out in all kinds of cars. Now you know you can do it, you've got nowhere to go but better! Congrats!

Nice job Andy, I'll have to join you one of these nights. I had to work last week. Sorry we weren't able to hook up.

Weather permitting, I'll be going up again this Friday night. If I can do better on the launch, I'm positive there's a better time waiting for me.

What is Friday night? I thought it was Wed nights? Let me know, maybe I can make it.

Hi Dan,

Wednesday nights is "Rock 101" drag nights. No drag tires, no open exhausts allowed. It's set more for the regular street guys and not the hard-core racers.

Friday nights are open to everything. You can run slicks, open exhausts, etc...All classes of cars run. They have guys testing for their licenses and everything. They were even racing skimobiles!!

They require a helmet for cars faster than 14 seconds. I forgot mine last week and nobody said anything, but I don't want to be asked to park it after my first run, so I'll bring it. The gates open for tech inspection at 5:00pm and the track opens for racing at 6:00pm. Get there early to give your car the most time to cool off before your first pass.

Hope to see you there,

Andy
