Need everyone's help. If you have had any major warranty problems with your 2000 Camaro SS, especially problems with the brakes, please post them here. I am having an ongoing dispute with GM over major warranty problems with my vehicle. I need to know I'm not the only one who has had a problem with these cars.
I'm curious what kind of brake problems you are having and if you think it only relates to the 2000 year. My brother has a 99 base model and a 99 SS and just recently experienced brake problems with both. On the base model the caliper bolt came out and almost caused him to wreck. On the SS he seems to be experiencing an ABS problem that they can't seem to duplicate or figure out. He is rather unhappy with the brakes in general and is looking to upgrade the system; just isn't sure which one is a good one. Thanks.

I had to have the power window motor replaced on the drivers side of my 2000. The replacement one seems to be going as well.

The only brake proble I've had is the well known rotor warpage problem, had them turned once, they need it again, if they're too far to turn again I'll be getting new ones from an aftermarket supplier.

My 2000 SS has had the pinion seal replaced and the clutch pedal return spring. Other than that, I had the drivers side speaker replaced because it buzzes (new speaker didn't help). Also the velcro strap on my convertible top broke on the driver's side. I think that is all.

I have had the car brought in four times for warped rotors, and that's just one of the problems. Along with that I currently have an engine oil consumption problem. The engine is burning a quart of oil every 2000 miles and I have only 25,XXX miles on it. It really sucks, and this car was a replacement for my first 2000 SS which was returned to GM last year as a lemon. Posted by JRMayer2000SS (Member # 713) on :
Havings owned a 98 Z28, 98 SS and now a 2000 SS with 20,000 miles..
Rotors sucked on all three cars.. so I replaced them with GT Rotors, and haven't had the warp problems.. nice a smooth.
I noticed some power windows... this HAS TO BE the most warranty fixed item on our f-bodies.. I have replace a total of 6 power window motors betwen my 1996-2000 F-Bodies I've owned.. they suck... they get slower and slower until they don't work at all
Other than that, this particular SS is running great.. the best so far..
The 98 SS had the air conditioning go out 4 times.. due to a faulty shutoff switch.. they kept replacing the compressor because it kept blowing it up... some day maybe they will replace the switchoff problem instead.
Other than that.. all peaches and cream, which is why I keep buying these cars...
BUT.. I have had some pushrods on my 98 Z28 and 98 SS get broken.. but I tend to think that wasn't GM's fault I just replace those myself

I can detect early signs of brake warping at 14000 miles on my 2000. After all the horror stories I will probably go straight to aftermarket rotors. (has rotating ever fixed the brakes permanently for anyone?) Passenger side window is very slow, and I think my driveline/rear-end is excessively noisy sometimes. Not enough to take to brake taking it to dealer yet though.

Can someone tell me if the is a TSB out for the brakes for the 2000's and where I can get a copy of it? I need to know exactly what GM changed, or admitted was faulty.

Currently have 1700 miles on my 2000SS, perfect car in every way, with every mode it only gets better. The Amsoil Synthetics helped in every way, engine, transmission and rear end. 2000SS, Dark. Only problem with mine is third gear synchro, I'll bring it in one of these days for the reapair according to the TSB.

Well, I only had one major problem with my 2000 SS. Last fall, I started getting the SES light intermittently. The dealer thought it was a gas cap problem, so they replaced it. After about a month, I was getting the SES light constantly, and I could smell fuel when I pulled it into the garage. It ended up being a leak at the pressure sensor on top of the fuel tank. GM instructed the Dealer to replace the fuel tank, so I had a loaner Ford Taurus for a week while I waited for the tank to arrive.
Other than that, no major problems. I love my SS!

The brakes on both my 99 and 2000 warped. I replaced the rotors on the 2000 with Power slot rotors and have had great luck with them!
Other than that, the drivers side catyletic converter went bad, it was replaced under warranty at 18 thousand miles.(last week)
In my mind, there is no excuse for GM's poor quality rotors. It's not just F-bodys that are affected, I have heard similar stories from local Vette owners, and a friend just lemon-lawed her Grand-Am due to the problem.
Whether the problem lies with inferior metal, or incorrect thickness or whatever--- it's a dangerous condition, and I feel it should be warranted(BY GM) beyond 12 thousand miles. To me it's just assanine that a car less than a year old with brake pads that have over 80% life left, that the rotors are completly shot. GM dealers giving that excuse is like an insult, and a half-assed excuse for faulty rotors. Although I fixed mine with an aftermarket set, I still feel that the problem should have been solved by GM instead of myself.

Hi there! I really wonder what the guys do who live in "Lost Wages"! it is so hot there...how hot is it??? It's so hot, I think it affected my ABS brakes...I noticed them a lot more in the 100+ heat...unfortunately, I had to drive back to San Diego during Sunday...I'll never do that again!!! Way too hot and way too much traffic! I've had really no problems with the 2000 SS. I did a small adjustment on the hatch to have it open when clicked. Around here, the brakes, which are GT cross drilled rotors, coupled with the G-Force KD's are great. My windows are slower than Suz' Camry, but still work fine.

Well being from N.E it doesn't get to HOT to use the A.C. very much so the windows stay down. Don't really notice or care about the speed of the windows. I changed my rotors at 15,000 and put Power Slots on all four corners with new brake pads. Never had a warp problem with either stock or Power Slots. The car has been perfect since I picked it up in May 98. It will be going in probably for a new power steering unit because it wines real bad, after Limerock event. Driver's side power window is a bit slow, and the window squeals when it's being raised while wet. After 22,000 miles, I was surprised to see that I was down 1.5 quarts of oil after only 4000 miles after an oil change (Red Line synthetic); up to this point the engine hadn't used up a drop of oil. I thought my rotors were a bit problematic after only 2000 miles, but the dealer swore I was dreaming. Under hard use, the brakes pulse a little, and I know it's not my imagination. Anyway, that's about it for my GM Goof List.
