Good question. Hey, what part of the Bay Area are you in? I'm in Redwood City.

I'm up north of you; Petaluma.

Doesn't it work when you click on the "edit" icon. There should be a box that can be checked ... it doesn't actually say "delete" by it ... and that should do it.

I can't test cuz I'm a moderator.

No, there's no box anymore, it says posts can only be deleted by moderators!

Let me try and see if I can delete my post.

There is no delete button. There is only an edit post button. The information at the top of page syas that you can delete but I couldn't find any way to delete.

I didn't want any post deleted, I just wanted to know why, that's all.

Yeah, it doesn't make any sense that the author of a post cannot delete it without asking permission first...
