So 2002 is the (at least nearterm) end of the F-Body. I think it is completely reasonable to say that people choose a brand loyalty based on what is available. For example.. when the 300ZX was stopped being produced in 1995.. many loyal fans started driving Supras.. etc.. whereas the Supra might have been a rival before..

That being said..

If you had to buy 2003 anything.. and you were the sports car nut that you are... respond with the top 3 cars you would likely buy that are at least comparable in price. Would you buy a Mustang? 3000GT? What I don't think the major impact has set in yet, is that there is truly only one heritage American-Muscle sports car (reasonably priced) that is still available after all this.. the Mustang..

J.R.'s Prediction: The Camaro / Firebird platform may disappear, but the demand for a new market will be so strong, that it will force the rivals such as Dodge, Chrysler, etc to push forward their concepts.. and remember I said this.. there will be a buyer's market again... a market for american made muscle.. and then once that whole process begins to create new muscle excitement.. it will trigger the GM folk to bring the f-body back. We can't all drive a pony can we? NOPE! Think about it.

This is strictly fact.. now.. without that said.. what car will you buy in 2003 that is considered a sports car?

I'm not going to buy a car in 2003, regardless of whether there is an F-body or not. That having been said .... Of what is out there right now, I'd go for a C5, or an M3. A longshot would be the S2000 ... that thing kicks major butt in AutoX.

We're never supposed to say never, but I would NEVER buy a Ford. I've directed way too much teasing to those that do drive Fords to ever go over to the dark side.

But look what happened with the Ford Exploder Sport Trac... CHevrolet released the Avalanche shortly thereafter..

Ford Lightning.. isn't there a Chevrolet truck coming out soon with power and muscle?

I just think this loss of the f-body will effect the market enough to spark a new interest... by 2004 we will see some new stuff out there competing against Ford Mustang.

Love, - J.R.

A Corvette would be next. Also looking at the alledged 03 Mustang Boss 302, it would look good next to my 1970 Boss 302 and be cheaper to drive

Choices if we were to buy a car in 2003..................and there isn't a Camaro to buy..................

1. C5 (used Z06)

2. Mid-year Corvette (LS1/6-speed project car)

3. A souped-up PT Cruiser? Not a sports car, but appeals to "car types" making it fun to modify because of all the goodies out there for it.

(I know I'll think of a better answer after I hit the reply button..................)

Z06
Viper
M3

What I will probably do, maybe not in 2003, will be to buy an old Camaro and restore it. Teri and Steve won't sell me theirs so I'll find my own!

I also won't sell my 99 SS but I would sell the Z06 to get a new one or a Viper.

Ya know DanEh ... I hate to stick my nose into this again ... but 10 years from now, when your ZO6 is worth about 17K and the 502 is worth 60K you'll really be regretting your hardline stance. Just make sure Steve includes the numbers matching drivetrain and a voucher for free installation.

C5
ZO6

The Mustang, which I have driven is just too sssssssssslow. It really needs a performance upgrade. I also don't like the new look, I prefer the 99 much better.

I will never buy a Mustang, I would buy:
ZO6
M5
Viper
I know none of these are in the target price range, so I will save my money and keep my SS until I'm ready to buy. Like Dan said, I'd like to restore an older Camaro as well.

A Z06 would top the "affordable" list...but an 03 Viper would be my dream!!!

leftover 2002 Camaro

Well, I would have to say that I don't have a brand loyalty. I've been disappointed in GM customer service quality and dealer cooperation and professionalism. I used to, but now I've had too many disappointments.

I ordered my 2002 because it was the best car for the money, that's it. If I didn't have the Camaro as a choice, I would possibly bought a used M3 or waited until I had enough $$$ for a Z06 or new M3. I also would have had to wait for the new M3 to start going for less than sticker - ain't no way I'm paying $15K over sticker!

Well since the fbody is geared at the 35k market and under what does that leave? Not much, and if you want the best bang for the buck and don't like the mustang what else is there? {thats a serious question BTW}

Would I buy a mustang? Yes, but not the current model I don't like the styling, seats, or the HP output.

Danny me boy...If you want to build an old Camaro, you're OWN 502 project would be perfect to get started on.

It takes some work and some $$$ but you'll feel more accomplished when you do it(or most of it) yourself.

Teri, sounds like a reasonable deal to me.

Possum, stay out of this!! What are you their agent??

Old Guy, as usual you make perfect sense!! I think that is the way I will go. I have to get a job and build the new garage with a lift first!! Maybe I'll start a car detailing business, I seem to spend enough time doing that!

I'd go for a classic.

A 1969 Chevelle, 2 door h/t, 396ci, or (if I could find one for sale) a 1969 427ci COPO Camaro.

With the car payments I'm making right now between my various cars, I could of gotten a Z06, so that'd be my new car choice. However, I think I may add 2000 Camaro SS's great grandad to the fleet: 69 Camaro RS/SS.
