Hi, I have a friend that her car is overheating if stuck in middle of traffic. The trick of turning A/C on to cool the temperature worked. But what could be the problem. Something that trigger the fan or ?

A couple of thoughts: 1.) Is the water circulating? As it warms up, check the upper and lower radiator hoses, heater hoses etc. Do some feel cool while the others hot? If it doesn't circulate, the hot water to trip the sensor never gets there. Poor circulation can be thermostat, clog or pump.
2.) What does the antifreeze look like, dirty or pretty clear?
3.) Do you have an ohm meter to check the sensor or can you bypass it?
4.) I think there are basically 3 parts to this, the radiator sensor, the fan relay and the fan. Since the fan comes on (I assume it's the same fan) with the AC switch that leaves you with the sensor and the relay. So either the water is not heating the sensor, the sensor is bad, or the relay is bad.
My 96 impala did the same exact thing and it turned out to be a clogged system, that was right about at 3 years old, flushed the system with the prestone flush kit and it has been good since.
