This thread is intended as neither political or inflammatory. (And for you wise guys out there, no, I am not running a fever or in a hallucinatory state.) I just find these comments coming at this time to be completely out of line. In fact, well, I'll leave you to be the judge of what he says. Here are a couple of quotes from the article:
quote:
Television evangelists Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson, two of the most prominent voices of the religious right, said liberal civil liberties groups, feminists, homosexuals and abortion rights supporters bear partial responsibility for Tuesday's terrorist attacks because their actions have turned God's anger against America.
.....
"God continues to lift the curtain and allow the enemies of America to give us probably what we deserve," said Falwell.............
.....
Falwell said the American Civil Liberties Union has "got to take a lot of blame for this,..........."
And here's the article:

God Gave U.S. 'What We Deserve,' Falwell Says

They've always been idiots, I guess they always will be. The scary thing is, some people actually believe in these guys

Even scarier that they are considered mainstream, and not extremist

Ban religous broadcasting

It is extremely sad that religous leaders actually think like this.

Falwell clarification and apology

Even though I classify myself as an "Evangelical Christian", I am not a fan of Jerry Falwell.

I concur with much of what he says in this statement, particularly those statement directed specifically at the Church.

Part of the Retraction Statement by Jerry Falwell:
I sincerely regret that comments I made during a theological discussion on a Christian television program were taken out of their context and reported, and that my thoughts - reduced to sound bites - have detracted from the spirit of this time of mourning.
Bull Sheet!!!!! How can the following be "taken out of context"?
quote:
Original Statement by Jerry Falwell:
"God continues to lift the curtain and allow the enemies of America to give us probably what we deserve, ...."

........

"The abortionists have got to bear some burden for this because God will not be mocked. And when we destroy 40 million little innocent babies, we make God mad. I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People for the American Way -- all of them who have tried to secularize America -- I point the finger in their face and say, 'You helped this happen.' "

I'm sorry, his apology doesn't wash!

You're right again!!

It looks like the apology has been reworded removing the qualifications.

Anyone have Falwell's or Pat Robertson's addresses so we can forward them to Osama Bin Laden, maybe with a little note saying "Next time hit the right target, you f---king bozo...."

I think that this just goes to show that extremism, of any form, is terrible. (okay, the only good extremism is in putting zaino's on every week)
