Yesterday I gleefully drove down to the local muffler shop to make a slight alteration to my newest purchace.The SLP Loudmouth exhaust system. After installing this marvelous piece of stainless tubing to the tune of $340.00, I found the sound to be a little overwhelming. The drone at 2000 rpm was unbearable and I hated the rapp created from not enough back pressure.SO I decided to add a 4" magnaflow muffler($100.00) into the area that SLP put the pseudo glass pack bubble. The muffler guy gently cut the tube out and welded in the new muffler in its place, I started it up. Ah, yes thats the sound I was looking for! Deep throaty tone and just the right volume. As I drove away I throttled down and let the rest of the world hear how great this thing sounds. I was so happy. I couldnt wait to hit the highway to really open it up and enjoy my new sound. As I cruised along all the stress I had encountered over the last few days had been lifted from my shoulders. Excited to be back in my car with the perfect exhaust note I raced up to 70 mph and quickly came to my exit from the freeway. As I pulled off I was smiling and enjoying the nice rumble of the car decellarating until all of the sudden I hear a strange clacking noise, and then the rear of the car starts hopping. I quickly pull to the side of the road to see what is going on. I swing the door open and quickly look at the rear of the car. At first I didnt see anything. no flat tire, nothing out of place. I pulled the car forward about five feet and reinspected the rear tires, and there to my horror, a 4" long jagged piece of rusty steel, suspicously looking like a piece of someone elses muffler bracket is sticking out of the top of my BF Goodrich G-Force TA! My beautiful tire with only 800 miles on it has been ruined. Not thinking, I angrily tugged the rusty knife like object out of the tire only to expose the large gash which is now hissing like a bomb ready to explode.Desperation was setting in. Fortunately, I was only blocks from home. Like a lame horse I sadly limped home, driving 5 mph and waving traffic around me. After having a tantrum and being in shock for an hour, I started calling tire dealers to find a new tire. One day later and $365.00 poorer, My tire is back.What a day. Sorry to hear about that. Atleast the rim didn't get ruined. Last week when I was installing my control arms in my driveway I look over at my tire and see a nice size screw and a staple in the tire. I was so pissed. Luckly the staple didnt do anything and they were able to patch up the screw.

The muffler shop should reimburse you if thew culprit chunk of metal came off their floor. That's what brooms are for. I think you would have a legitimate argument with them and they should pay for your new tire using their insurance. Give it a try. Did you save the piece?

Glad it didn't blow out and do lots more damage.

Sorry to hear about that one.
We have a screw stuck in the rear tire of our '90 IROC right now.....It's holding the air in, so I'll be driving it tomorrow to get it repaired......It's only a few miles and if I air it up fully before I go, It'll be o.k. until I get there. Thank goodness it's an old tire and not one of the new Comp T/A's we just put on the front!

I dont believe it came from the muffler shop. I drove 20 minutes before anything went wrong. If I thought I picked it up there I definataly would complain. It was just a stupid coincidence that the metal fragment came from another car or truck. In retrospect Im thankful it didnt happen to come apart at 70 MPH. Ouch.....$340 for Loudmouth install? I hope they at least gave you a kiss first.
NateSS just had his put on by our shop....ask him how much it was. I'm sure it was less than $200.

Uh, no I actualy installed it myself. The cost of the Loudmouth was $340.00 and the addition of the Magnaflow muffler was $100.00. The big slap was the cost of the new tire. You know what they say though, "you want performance, you gotta pay" BF Goodrich TA KD 275/40/17 aint cheap!
