As many of you know, I and my car were at ground zero on the 11th. I got out fine (sort of) and 11 days later, after a real adventure and a lot of work I got the SS out of the garage two blocks from the site.

Below are a couple of shots and the link to the album containing more shots.

Thanks again for all of your interest and expressions of concern and support.

You did an amazing job cleaning up your car! What a mess that must have been in the interior.

Did you find any perminant damage?

No, the garage attendants did, but I knew that would be the case going in since they always leave the windows open.

I don't even want to scare you about what percentage of that dust was asbestos. I hope you used protection when you cleaned it up. It would be a shame to suffer the consequences down the road like so many New Yorkers are certainly going to experience.

That stuff is nasty! The media really downplayed the health risks to everyone exposed.

Yeah I know, I was really careful, vacuumed everything thoroughly first, then dampend towels to do the first, second and third wipe down, but the dust got everywhere whenit was in the garage, under the dash, etc. What's the half life of asbestos?

Thanks Mary and Ralph, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Six hours to do the interior, everything had to be cleaned three times to get all the residue off. It still smells a bit like the dust, but I'm hopeful that will go away in time.

Richard,

I've been out of touch a few days camping with the family and just now saw your post. Can't tell you how glad i am to hear you made it out safe! In addition, the car looks no worse for the wear.

Take care my NY friend!

John

WOW

Glad you're o.k. - I guess you don't feel too lucky, but from the perspective now, you are fortunate indeed.

Let's all count our blessings, and stay strong for those still in the fight and still hurting.
