Hello John!!

In your mail you ask:

I'm ramping up to work on my brake calipers soon. I stopped by Trak Auto to
look for some paint but I wanted to double check a few things to make sure I
do this right the first time.

What kind (brand) of brake cleaner did you use, and how did you go about
doing it? I have braided brake lines ready to install on the car, so I'll
be taking the calipers and brackets completely off the car when this
painting project is underway so I can kill two birds with one stone. This
should make the caliper project much easier.

What were the exact paints you used? I've found the following Engine
Enamels with Ceramic from Dupli-Color. I think these were the ones you
used...

DE 1650 Cast Coat Aluminum
DE 1651 Cast Coat Iron

Aluminum on the brackets, iron on the calipers.

----------------------------

The paints I used were Dupli-Color, The aluminum color you have listed is different than what I used # DE 1615 Aluminum. But I would think what you have will get you the results you are looking for.

Brake cleaner, nothing fancy, I think I just bought the cheapest stuff. 2 can should be enough.

Can't stress proper cleaning!!! Since you are taking them off you should be able to get them good and clean. Use a scouring pad and tooth brush to clean the grooves and stuff.

To paint I used old wire coat hangers and fabricate hooks to hang each part. Plkus that gives you a handle to hold the parts with. Use light coats. Mask off the bleeder and where the brake line connects.

Other than that it is good luck! E-mail me if you need more!

Andy

Thanks for the tips Andy! I'll probably get this project rolling sometime next week after the Skyline cruise.
