Anyone have any info on changing over to sythetic oil? I am approaching my 2000 mile mark with the stock oil from factory, and want to change to sythetic. I drive the car pretty hard so I know the bebefits of using synthetic. What brands are good for SS's and where do you buy em? Any prep before changing it out? Filter suggestions? any help is appreciated. Thanks! Eric

Drain old oil - replace with synthetic, I use Mobile One - 5 W 30.
Stock filter is O.K.

Amsoil is the brand of choice for this guy. Before I installed in any of my auto's and boat, I made darn sure that it was the best around. Having only a few miles on your ride you will not need the flush out to get all the old oil out of the engine. When I put in in my 2000SS, I made sure I had the Amsoil Filter to go along with it. Since then, I have used there rear in fluid, transmission fluid (M-6) and anti freeze. Check out there website and you can find a local dealer in your area who will give you all the scoop on the products that have. I use Mobile One 5W-30. I have 86,000 miles and ZERO consumption. Just remember, Mobil One comes from the factory in all C5's...

I've always used Mobil 1 5w30 & 10w30 synthetic & I drive hard with no problems.

Mobil 1 and Amsoil are both great products. I have Mobil 1 in my SS and my fiance runs Amsoil in his Lightning. I am getting ready to put Amsoil in the Differential. And I run an Amsoil Air Filter.

Well as always, GM is going to put the most economical products in their production line cars. Anything that cost a few bucks more GM will not go that way. Amsoil is 100% Synthetic, where as Mobil is not. Amsoil supports an active racing program and you can actually talk to individuals that use and race with it on a regular basis, that's extremely important to me. Amsoil is more expensive than some other brands, I personnaly do want just adequate protection, but ultimate protection in all my engines. With 240,000 miles on a daily driver that still pass's emission test with flying colors, I have not complaints. KICKBACK

The problem that some people, like myself, might find is that some things are hard to find! I have a hard enough time finding a place that sells Mobil 1. Or at least a place that doesn't require a deposit of my left arm or leg. I usually stock up when I see it. I can't imagine trying to find Amsoil. The few part stores just aren't helpful I guess

Hey Mark....if you want me to I could see if my local Amsoil Rep has access to a list of other reps. Then, you could find one in your area. Many of the Quik Lubes around here carry it...they just don't advertise much. And also check around at some of the performance shops. Someone around there must carry Amsoil! Last time I checked Mobil 1 synthetic is a fully synthetic oil; when did that change?
