Mark your calendars now ... the Camaro/Firebird Gathering at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky is scheduled for September 20 - 22, 2002.

This is the target event for "1,000" Camaros in one place other than St. Therese"

To quote the F-Bodfather

quote:
We are planning to hit 1,000 Camaros at the National Corvette Museum on Sept. 20-22 2002....Why Bowling Green? The Museum is "expert" at putting together a great show weekend (not that many of you are not...but that is what they do...and they do it all the time..) In addition to all the things a show can be or offer..you also get the opportunity to tour a GM assembly plant (Corvette) the museum tour, drag-racing, autocrossing, and gocart racing....to name just a few.....and, the facility is big enough......so mark your calendars now!!!

The source of the quote and more discussion can be found at Worldwide Camaro Associations Discussion Forum

God willing, I'll be there!!

I've marked my calendar, and plan to be there.

SWEET!!! I'm totally there! If you didn't go this year, you MUST go next year. The Corvette assembly plant alone makes the trip entirely worthwhile.

Teri;

Nice pic. of the new garage.

I was at a classic & custom car auction in Toronto on the weekend. There were a number of GM SS's on the block including a restored orange '69 Camaro SS - 396. I didn't see what it sold for, but I was tempted to make an offer (unfortunately my banker (my wife) wouldn't free up the funds ). A '70 Chevelle SS - 396 sold for $19K Cdn..

A friend of ours restored a Cortez Silver, 375 h.p. big block '69, painted it Hugger Orange and sold it last year for somewhere around $25K (sight unseen, except for pics over the internet) to someone in Hawaii.

'69's are getting some high prices....they're the ones that people seem to remember most from the "good old days". I'm still partial to my '67 though.

Posted by JohnS (Member # 1073) on 23 October, 2001 09:43 PM:

Love those 1st gen Camaros. I was thinking about restoring one when I came across a first 4th gen SS, a '96 SS in '98, fell in love all over again (don't tell my wife), and then ordered my '99. Still want to have a COPO - some day.

I'm still trying to figure out how Fbodfather got the job I should have had at GM. Maybe it's because I don't work at GM, or because he's better looking.

Posted by Deanne (Member # 1057) on 23 October, 2001 11:37 PM:

Sounds like a great time! Maybe I can actually have the 69' mostly restored by then and take a road trip. Only bad part would be not autocrossing or road racing. The 69' is not the right car for that. But Dan would let me drive the Z06, right Dan? I'll be nice to her. Pretty please...

Posted by DanA_F99_1977 (Member # 118) on 24 October, 2001 09:35 AM:

Why not, many others have driven it. I am happy to let my f-bod friends enjoy my toys with me. I guess that means I have to bring the Z06.

Moving right along .. I've blocked 12 non-smoking rooms at the Best Western Continental Inn for the SSOA which gives us breathing room right up to September 1.

Thanks Art.

We'll try and fill them with SSOA members first. If I can get our Oregon members to follow us out, we can fill up half of those easily!

Art;

You read my mind. I was going to e-mail you to see where you stayed, and try to make reservations for next year.

Do you already have names for the 12 rooms? If so, I'll go ahead and make a separate reservation.

Thanks.

Nope. No names yet. I just wanted to make sure that a bunch of us could stay there. The group rate is $55.00 per night and it sound like they'll throw in a very very basic continental breakfast .... donuts, coffee and juice.

This hotel is in between the Museum and the plant. There is one other where the "dignitaries" were staying right across from the museum, it's smaller, and I expect more expensive.

There's a restaurant on the hotel lot and a Wendy's across the street .

The heavy concentration of hotels and restaurants is one exit up the interstate (about 5 miles and it was under construction) and is also an option, though definitely my second choice.

You're welcome to part of this block if you like.

Art

For the rooms, if you'd be so kind. Send me an e-mail with your name address and phone number.

I'll start collecting names now, but won't submit them to the hotel until the middle of August, allowing lots of time for changes in plans. After I submit the list to the hotel you'll have to call them to guarantee your room with your credit card.

Now....let me get this straight....the Fbodfather throws a party AND - YOU - SHOW -- UP ---- IN -------- A Z 0 6!?!?

(Yeo, Joey Red and Eddie da Ram and Gino Bux -- pay a little visit to Boston Blackie, will ya??? Please straighten him out on what ccaaahhhhhhhhhhhh he should be bringing to BG.............) (who knew?)

Looks like we'll have to do a little covert operations. A Z06 will be hard to drive down without any wheels. We'll just have to make him an offer he can't refuse.

....like some cement shoes(car on blocks).

Sounds great Dan...only problem is if I drive one I will end up wanting one!

BTW...I think the Z06 would look cool towing the SS. Just need a buggy for all those ponies to carry the wheels.

Hey PoSSum, was thinking of taking in either this event or the Firehawk Rally next year. Would be a good time driving down with a group of people. We'll have to see how the calendar is looking.

You better give me a hug! Otherwise, I have a can of blue spray paint with your Z06's name on it. You said you always wanted a blue one!

No problem Dan...I need to put any extra money into restoring the Camaro! Better to keep the Z06 away from me. The autocrosser and roadracer in me would rule over logic and I would never finish the Camaro.

Danny Boy,

The F-bodfather made a request of us to "remind you of who he is" So you are saying that we arent fast enough to catch you in your Z06. Well you may be right. But it takes one to catch one.........Joey will you remind this guy of what my "LADY" drives..... Danny Boy......u can out run an SS..........but you can't out run a Z06. Fbodfather......this will be taken care of!

Gino Bux

Hey Bello, I saw what your lady drives. Very nice. But it depends on who is driving it. I am sooooo scarrrreeed of you and Joey, that I would be verrry hard to catch. If she was driving, then I'm worried, if you are driving then I'm not sure, since you can lose decals so easy, but if Joey is drivin, I ain't worried because he will miss gears while he's reaching for the ......................

Oreo Box!

I aint going there with the Oreo Box..........Joey......I will leave this for you...........but as to the decal comment....decals peel off........and you know why decals peel? They peel because they aren't used to hitting speeds in excess of 150. Its gonna be fun to catch you! But as I see.....you know very well the term "Speed" as per the toys you have invested in.

The ZL1 is still a "lowly" Camaro! Bring it on up.

You know Fbodfather, I could tell everyone why I own a Z06. There was this ride that Grace took in a Z06 at Bragg-Smith that caused it!
