Yep, I finally got my 2002 Camaro SS 35th Anniversary. There is a long timeline behind the acquisiton...I'll elaborate briefly. - July 20, 2001 - The order is in. 2002 Chevrolet Camaro SS Coupe - 35th Anniversary with SLP options consisting of Auburn Rear End, Bilstien Suspension, Dual-Dual Exhaust, and Airlid. - July-September - LOTS OF PATIENCE! - September 25, 2001 - I sell my 1998 Camaro SS. GM announces the end of the f-body. Emotional, I post a great memory with my 1998 SS. Somebody very important sees this post and associates with it...enter Scott Settlemire. - October 4, 2001 - Dealer cannot supply me with production date. I notice other SSOA members with their orders fulfilled. I start to get worried. - October 14, 2001 - Looking for help, I ask Scott if he could track my order. - October 17, 2001 - I receive a private message from Scott. He has news about my order but also has an interesting offer to present. - October 18, 2001 - A.M. - Scott calls me at work. Bad news from the dealer - it seems that there were too many orders taken. There's a chance I will not get my order. But, Scott further explains the offer from the previous night: A 2002 Camaro SS 35th Anniversary Convertible that is an Official Brickyard 400 Pace Car (#43). He invites me to take a test drive that evening. P.M. - I fall for the car immediately. The one hour test drive was great. Scott and I get a chance to talk Camaros and Chevrolet in general. I basically agree to take the car. - October 22, 2001 - The car is acquired with 3400 mi and for a hell of a price. I pamper her a bit and away we go for a tour of the east side (Detroit).
Until this month, I have never talked to or met Scott Settlemire although we live about a 1/2 mile from each other. In a month's time, I have acquired a deep respect for a man who not only loves his job (who wouldn't!) but gives endlessly to a cause that he cares so much about. We are truly blessed to have him "work for us".
Scott is a great person and I can see him doing what he did for you. Seemed like that type of person when I met him in indy.

Congratulations!! That story sounds like the Scott that we all know. Now, I hope it was Scott that helped you out. If it was the FBodFather then you owe him and you never know when he is going to collect!! Good luck with the car!!!

That is soooo neat! Scott will go to great lengths to help his "kids". He's a great friend to us all. What a great memory you have in how you acquired your car....it's a special one!
Make sure you keep a scrap book/memory album with your story and memorabilia of your SS.
When we have our SSOA reunions, we'll all pass them around and share our hiSStory.

What a cool story! I have not had the opportunity to meet Scott yet. Hopefully one day I will get to meet him. He has such passion for the Camaros and the loyal following of people who are fortunate enough to own such a great car. Congrtas on your new ride. Your gonna love that drop top! And what a great number (#43). The King Richard Petty!!!
