Interesting article in C5 Registry regarding the air flow screen in the MAF unit.
It seems the screen was needed for vehicles that had bends in their air intakes. The bends would cause a disrution in the air flow. The screen correctd this before the air reached the throttle body. The 2002 Z06 no longer has this screen as it was deemed unnecessary because of the direct flow of air from the air cleaner to the TB! i.e. F-body induction systems!
Ouote "With the Corvette's relatively straight passage between the air filter box and the MAF, the straightener isn't needed and was removed."

To remove or not remove. That, is the question. Will there ever be a definitive answer?

But the unit was recalibated like the GMAF's are to run without the screen.
