Winner: (from what I understood) SVT! It’s a more balanced performer, a better daily driver, and as tested this time around, the better value.
They also said that the Camaro is better at making speed, while the Mustang is better at handling it. Go figure, even after the SS won the Slalom event! SS: 63.04 Cobra 63.72 Oops made an error, the SVT did win the Slalom
They did give a kudos: “If you’re a numbers guy, and you define a musclecar by its straight-line performance and macho image, the Camaro is the winner.” Isn’t that a definition of a ‘musclecar’? Otherwise maybe they should classify it as a ‘finesse car’!
Check out these dyno’s they got: SS 268 RWHP 280 RWTQ, Cobra 240 RWHP 258 RWTQ

The results were more or less what I expected to see. The SS makes bigger hp numbers and has consistently been the quicker car since the 4th gen came out in '93. I was curious about the slalom because I didn't know how much better an SS was than a Z28 in that test with its wider tires and improved suspension. It would have been nice to have tested a Bilstein or 1LE car with optional exhaust and lid instead of a 35th Ann. model. The money spent on the stripes could have been used for the go-fast stuff and the car would have come in closer to the Mustang's $29k price. That said, I was not really surprised that the Cobra edged out the SS in that one test. The new Mustangs have been as consistent at out-handling the f-bodies ( not by much, granted) as the f-bodies have been consistent at convincingly slapping the Mustangs in acceleration tests. I will admit that I think the Cobra is pretty quick. Certainly quicker than any of the previous tests I've read. It's within a car length or two of the f-bodies. With some simplt-ons, they can easily run with an LS-1. Some of the locals who own "fixed" Cobras have touted themselves as running 13.5's at New England Dragway, but of course they don't have the timeslips to prove it. That's why I keep mine in my car. If they don't believe my timeslip, I will happily prove it again as they get the tail light view.
