When I went to get my oil changed, the guy there asked me a few questions about my car and I told him I wanted to change the induction lid and go for a K&N Air Filter. He told me that it would void the warranty on the car since its an oil based filter... is this true? I wouldn't want to lose a warranty at 7000 miles.

never heard of that one!
My car has been to the dealer, as has Rock's and no mention of the lid or filter.

Ditto.
K&N's are in my SS and Jeep, and I have the SLP lid on my SS. Dealers have never questioned the lid or air filters.

The factory warranty can be void if the oil from the filter causes the MAF to fail or otherwise malfunction. My dealer replaced the MAF on my car, with the K&N in place. The service advisor told me if the car is brought in a second time with MAF problems (and the filter is in place) they can void warranty on replacing the MAF. That does'nt mean that you can't just replace the filter with the stock one when you go in for service! Just FYI. Posted by amy00ss (Member # 106) on :

But they have to prove by engineering analysis that the failure was caused by the part that was replaced (in this case the K&N Filter). The Magnuson-Moss Act is our protection. They have information about it on the SEMA site.
