New thread so you can explain what a Yankee Swap is. (Is that politically correct?)

Ok, I think I have this right.
You tell everyone to bring a gift and set a dollar amount. We usually do 20 bucks.
Then everyone gets a number via raffle. Number one goes first and picks whatever gift they want. Then number two can take any other gift or take number 1's then number 1 picks another one. You do this all the way through. It gets really funny when someone gets something that they want ot keep and they are at everyone elses mercy after them. You can do all types of variations from this. Usually after all is done, we let number 1 go back and take whatever he/she wanted.
It makes it interesting instead of just swapping gifts. You can be creative with the rules and there can be all types of wheeling and dealing going on as well!
I thought it would be kind of foolish when the ECCC did it last year, but then I could see how much fun it was when they actually did it at the party.

We've done that. It's a HOOT!!
Get's especially interesting with husbands and wives cooperating ... or not cooperating ... "you steal that one for me and I'll get you the ..."
Highly recommended!!!

Oh, yes. That's the standard ritual for our local gift exchange. A gift can be stolen twice. The third person keeps it. We got a really cool glass piggy bank this year!
I'd never heard the name though. Must be an East Coast thing? What would we call it here in the West?

Hmmm, I don't know, there is a west coast offense. What could you do for a wet (spelling intended) coast gift swap?

We,ve done it every year for a while now at a neighbors annual party. It's always a riot, and it gets better if the crowd is bigger. At this event most everybody knows everybody so no one is shy about grabbing what they want!
