If you feel yourself getting light-headed, you may want to stop reading.
There I was, sitting in a left turn lane in my new (about 200 miles on it) 35th Anniversary SS LE minding my own business and waiting for the light to change. There were about 3 cars ahead of me in the turn lane. Before I could do anything but lay on the horn, the '85 Pontiac Paresienne (sp) right in front of me starts backing up! WHAM!!!! Her rear bumper guard smacks into the just-Zainoed front end of my baby!
Her explanation to the police - 'I was just backing up to get in the other lane, I didn't see him back there'. duh, did you look????
The body shop couldn't even find a listing yet for the parts that are needed - they said the car was too new. geesh! Oh, and the best thing, when I told them who her insurance company was, the guy said - 'oh, they only insure high risk drivers'. Great! She probably has already been cancelled.
Some days it doesn't even pay to get out of bed, let alone take the SS out of the garage. The odd thing is, of the few wrecks I have had in 40 years of driving, it has never been my fault and in most cases my vehicle was not moving.
At least the air bags did not go off!

Man that sucks - let that be the worst thing that ever happens to you and your car and you'll be all right.

That sucks! Every time I take my car out I worry about some jackass Jersey driver smacking into me too! As far as parts, any GM authorized body shop should be able to get part numbers based on your VIN, nothing is new for the 35th except decals .... the center applique # is 10308472 ... dont know the stripes number GOOD LUCK

Thanks, everyone for your concern. Actually, the only things damaged, that we can tell so far, are 35th Anniv. LE special items. The driver's side stripe at the leading edge of the front 'lip' is slightly torn in one place and wrinkled just above the grill. And the grill itself is dented in enough to bend the R letter. It looks like the 5 mph bumper stuff did its job in reducing damage. I'm still sort of bummed out though. Maybe thinking about hiring Joey Red to "take care of 'em"!
At least no one was hurt.
Oh yeah, one other thing happened during the whole ordeal - the deputy sherrif who responded was looking at the damaged lip area and ran his finger under the lip.
He said, "Bondo". I said, "What?" He said, "Bondo, this has been repaired before." I said, "What? This is a new car, it has 200 miles on it. What are you talking about?" He said, "It feels like it has been Bondoed before." I said, "It is a new car. It has never been in an accident before. Where are you going with this?" He said, (realizing I was getting upset), "Don't worry, this wasn't your fault. It just looks to me like Bondo."
Oh well. At least the other driver didn't claim I ran into her while she was stopped.

That sucks!!
The officer probably doesn't know that the front of the car is plastic ... therefore his "bondo" statement.
Glad to hear the damage is minimal. I'm sure they'll get it back to as good, or better, than new.

I always wanna cry when I hear about someone stupid causing damage to any of our cars. The only consolation I can offer is that you'll get new parts. Granted, it won't be all-original any more but at least you won't have to live with bondo (I wonder what the cop felt that he thought was bondo anyway). And the paint's new enough it should be a breeze to match.
Good luck with everything

When I read your first post, this was the first thing that came to mind. I know of one person where this happened. Tough case to argue.

That very same thing happened to my mom at a gas station. Her car was in the process of being fueled and a lady at the pump in front of her just put it in reverse and let 'er rip. She immediately got out and started yelling at my mom asking her why she rammed her (the pump by mom's car was still going and the car's engine was off). The lady also tried to claim whiplash and severe injury. The only damage was a bent front plate on mom's car and nothing happened to the lady's car that backed into her, but she sure put up a stink over something that was her own fault. Some people.
I sure hope your car is back to new condition soon!

What the officer 'thought' was bondo was actually the rippled stripe under the leading edge of the upper lip of the grill opening. The body shop guy got a real kick out of the 'bondo' comment when I told him.

Steve, could you post a pic of your bra and mirror covers in a new thread?
