Good afternoon, fellow Camaro and Firebird Enthusiasts......
Thought you might want to read about Corvette's 50th Anniversary at
Indy....Additionally, 50 Silver Camaro Z28 convertibles will be provided as
media/track vehicles for both the Indianapolis 500 and the Brickyard 400.....
Later this year, Chevy will unveil a very special "Brickyard 400" Festival
Convertible based on the Camaro SS.....more details to follow! (P.S....I can
guarantee you that they are NOT purple...)
CORVETTE TO PACE INDY 500 . . . The Chevrolet Corvette, an international
performance icon, has been named official pace car of this year?s Indianapolis
500, the world?s most prestigious open-wheel race. This will be the fifth time
that Corvette has paced the Indy 500 -- the most pace car appearances by a
single brand -- and the 13th time that a Chevy has paced the big race. The
year?s event, to be held May 26, will have special significance as it signals
the start of a yearlong celebration leading up to Corvette?s 50th anniversary in
2003. The Corvette that provides the platform for the Indy 500 Pace Car is
equipped with a standard 5.7-liter LS1 V8 engine that produces 350 horsepower in
production trim. Chevrolet last paced the Indy 500 in 1999 with Jay Leno, host
of "The Tonight Show," behind the wheel of a Monte Carlo pace car. The driver of
this year?s pace car has not yet been determined.

No..it is not an LS6.
No..it is not Yellow.
No..it is not a special color (unless of course you happen to love this particular color...which is...
(all together now....)
>>>>>>>>NOT PURPLE<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
It has something special on the car...you could theoretically do a knock off by adding this "something special" and IF you could reproduce the Brickyard 400 decals.....but more importantly, --and to keep the car verifiable---it will have a special "RPO" code...on all 55 of them. 43 will go to dealers who win a sales contest. The other 12 will be shipped to Bowling Green for the F-body gathering in September.
The bottom line is this: Camaro will stand proud at the Brickyard once again. It will also be the car of choice for all the VIPs and Media at Indy 500 and the Brickyard (we will provide Z28 convertibles for this purpose....)
So...Steve da Wrench and Goldilox....start counting them there pennies........

da Fbodfatha.... (who knew?!?!)

well, if GM or the fbodfather has trouble picking a driver, let me be the first one to volunteer.
Second,
We guessed it's not gonna be Yellow, but its always fun to bring that up!!(hoping for a 5th gen in yellow though!!) Also trying to save the pennies, but need to buy a new chassis dyno, and its funny how they are about the same price. Unfortunatly, I need the dyno for work(and play) and don't REALLY(it hurts to say this) need another Camaro RIGHT NOW(but will later!!!!).

That is the truth for sure! Plus a bigger garage would be nice also!
As always thanks for the insight and thanks for everything you do for the Camaro.

The ZL/1 is being produced........by GMMG Inc. Z06 engine, wheels, brakes and original 1969 colors.
GM will NEVER build this car, in house.
Te car for Indy will be another badge and stripe job......not a bad thing, but certianly no "real" drastic departure.
thanks for the info.
