i did a search on this before posting, with no luck. everthing i found involved discussions on which oil was the best.

anyway, i bought a case of mobil 1 from the local shop today, and got some stickershock. i've heard of mailorder places where you can buy a couple cases or so at a time and get a good deal. is this just a rumor? if anybody knows of a place, i'd appreciate the info. i live in SE PA.

i was gonna just do it myself, as i don't think i've ever paid for an oil change. but after jacking the ss high enough to put stands under it, i got kinda nervous at the way it looked up there, and decided to give the dealer $10 bucks to do so.

hey drg

Your post sent me back to when I did my first oil change. I understand how nervous you get when you attempt something for the first time on your car. I thought I was going to break something. But it really is no different than changing the oil in any other car. I have found Install University to be a great help in learning how to work with my car, as well as the countless others here on this board.

As for the Mobil 1, I think the best deal I have found is at Walmart where you can get a case (6 quarts) for about $26. Lot more expensive than the non-synthetic or blended oil but worth every penny IMO.

ok, thanks. i am hoping somebody can confirm this mail order thing though. i'll try walmart if not.

i change my own oil in my other vehicles (2000 explorer, jeep sahara, honda cbr 1000), but this is the first one that i've owned that i couldn't just crawl under and unscrew the filter. the oil changing doesn't make me nervous, it's jacking the ss up so high to get stands under it that does. it just looks very "uncomfortable" up there after jacking up one side.

I know http://www.oiltown.com sells 12 quarts of Royal Purple for about $60 shipped.

AMSOIL,AMSOIL AMSOIL, AMSOIL
Get the best not the rest, get some series 2000 0-30W, good for at least 4/5 thousand miles and be sure to get their filter as well, better than anything on the market today. Each quart will cost you anout $5.10, plus the filter is around $7.50, look into their two stage air filters as well, flows better than a KN and filters better too.

If you have access to it, I find the cheapest every day price of Mobil 1 to be Sam's Club. Although owned by Walmart, the prices are lower.

Instead of trying to get it up on jack stands....just make a small ramp. I have some 1x6s nailed together (three steps). I run up on these and it gets the car just high enough to get under it.
As far as the oil is concerned, I also bought my Mobil One at Wal-Mart(no idea about the mail order thing). But now I use Amsoil. You can check them out at www.amsoil.com if you are interested. It is a little more expensive than the other synthetics though.
