My brother is looking at a 2000 ss covertible that has been sitting in the showroom w/ 100 miles on it. it is a 6-speed w/ all options and an SLP exhaust (not sure which one, but the sticker says $699 extra)
the dealer wants $27k for it, in New Jersey. the dealer says lots of people have looked at it, but can't get past the color (white); also, its winter.
you guys think this is a good deal? thanks.

I've seen an Arctic White 'vert out here and it certainly looks good. I have a black SS and both these cars are difficult to keep clean. On the other hand they both look GREAT! What color is the top? The one here has a brown top. That exhaust sounds like the SLP number and is really good. Another reason people may be passing on it is that it probably got just short of $5000 in SLP options on it. Lots of folks buy the straight GM version. That's OK, but this one is better! As for the price they want...it sounds reasonable to me. I've heard of other 2000 SS's going in the same range, but with more miles on them. Just my 2 cents worth.

Does not sound like too bad of a deal.I bet that dealer is tried of paying on it each month and you could probably save even more money on it. Actually on second thought I shouldn't really be commenting on US new car prices as I am comparing ( with the exchange rate of course ) the $27K US to $41K CND. For some reason, to buy a Camaro in the US will cost you more of your hard earned money than it would here in Canada. $41K for a white 2000 SS 'Vert w/exhaust would be way too much coin! Don't get me wrong here, white is okay but it isn't the most sought after color.
Anyways, like SdW said, check out some Sites that give you info on what that SS is worth in todays market. Try and find out what the Dealer paid for it. Then, if this is the car you want, go to the Dealer and make an offer. Keep in mind that that it is two year old technology. The LS1 has been improved upon since 2000. Use that as a bargaining tool!
I got my 2000 SS 'Vert ( in Aug. 2000 ) w/7000 miles on the clock for $25K US.

I would love to have a white SS....it makes a great color choice for a daily driver. See if http://www.kbb.com has a price listed for it and go from there.
