my pretty car got a boo boo the other day. 2x's a year i take my car to be professionally detailed and i decided that the other day since the nice weather was approaching that i would send it over there and get it cleaned. well that was the wrong thing to do...keep in mind i have taken my truck to this hand wash place for 3 yrs and never a scratch or ding! well i stood there and as he was starting to apply the soap he took the cloth mit and ran it down the side of my car and there must have been a rock in the cloth or something hard becuase there is now a scratch that runs from the front bumper cover by the blinker all the way down the passanger side door to the rear wheel. its gonna cost $1000.00 to fix it! i just stood there and cryed like a little baby! now my car is officially old! i cant believe i have to paint a 5 month old car!

Man,That has to hurt! Sorry to hear this.

If it's not too deep you may want to look at a process like "Colormelt". My door was keyed, and the repair is basically invisible, and it only cost about $100 Cdn.

Shouldn't the detail shop pay for the damage they do?!?!

Ouch!
That's why we wash our own cars with our own cotton wash mitts and clean water. If the mitt hits the ground, we get a fresh one.
We have separate mitts for the paint & wheels. The SS has it's own set of new mitts and towels that are used only on that car. The rest of them get the hand-me-downs.

thats just it he knows and i trust him but he was using a new mit and there was something on it. i want to fix it the right way its right down to the metal! he feels bad but there is a whole bunch of problems now becuase they are trying to say becuase i left the car there and went to have my haircut around the corner after i saw it happen and they were gonna finish doing the car. so i picked up the car and we settle what was gonna be done about it when i came back and i went home. he called his insurance company and told them that i left the car went to have my haircut and then came back and picked up the car and never said anything about there being a scratch. that i called after i got home and told him about the scratch. what a con-artist! i have just about told everyone about him the area that USED to go to him what he did....he messed with the wrong person!

By your description, it sounds like it runs almost the entire length of your car. A wash mitt wouldn't do that. Is there a chance the car was driven too close to something and was scratched that way? Could it have been a detailing cart, the wash bucket or something else.

Is it high enough to have been keyed?

Sounds like there's more to the story. If it was something in the wash mitt, it would be a short scratch and possibly in more of a circular motion than a straight line. Besides, any good detailer (or anyone who has read Sal Zaino's instructions) knows that the sides of the car should be washed with vertical motions.

Good luck!

: IF YOU WANT TO PLAY WITH THE BIG BOYS TOYS- THEN YOU GOT TO LEARN HOW TO WASH YOUR TOY"
(NO ONE, BUT NO ONE EVER TOUCH'S MY TOY)
If the scuff is not to deep, more than like a good detail shop can buff it out, if you were here close by, I would try a little RACE GLAZE LEVELING COMPOUND with a foam pad, more than likely it would come out.
Good Luck!
KICKBACK

i'm so sorry this happened to your baby! i really hope this crappy detail shop pays for the repairs. and yes, they definately messed with the wrong woman. kick their butts.

and please, for future reference, wash your own baby by hand.

hope everything turns out ok. good luck.

its several scratchs starting from the front bumper cover all the way to the rear of the door by the wheel...and no there was something in the mit. i watched it happen with my own 2 eyes! i would think that something else did it if i wasnt there to witness it. the guy that washed it wasnt the owner this time and it was one of his workers...serves me right...i usually do wash it myself but i usually take it 1 time a year to have it professionally detail...he gets things that i miss...i have learned my lesson! i plan on washing my car later on today by myself. im gonna take some pics of it to post up!

I think you need to get in touch with that Joey guy.

I've had bad luck with my SS. I had it parked next to my mom's mini van at my folks one day, she was taking out a metal milk crate from the side door of her van, put a nice scratch about 3 inchies long right below where the read window meets the side of the car. I had it buffed, but it's still very faint even after many coats of Zaino.

Then when I was getting my amplifier rack put in the back of my SS, one of the guys helping mount it didn't stay by the mats they put down to keep from scratching the car. His belt buckle had fun with my paint job. Luckily that came out just fine.

And can't forget about the piece of trash who put her door into the passenger side of my car (behind my door) getting her kid out of her back seat at 7-11 (the one time I don't park in the back of the lot). It was deep, so I know she knew she did it. I stood inside and watched her do it and come in like nothing happened. After looking at it. Looking at her, and her car, I know she wouldn't have any money to fix it. I got the dent out and touched up the little "nick", but you can still notice it with in a foot or two of the car.

I've got a few stone chips on my car as well. As my SS is black, I have decided once she's paid off, she's getting a new paint job, head to toe.

Good luck with getting this resolved. I feel your pain.

That is just the reason Steve da Wrench and his employees don't wear jeans with rivets or belts. Rivets and belt buckles scratch, no matter how careful one is. The techs at the shop wear sweat pants when working on cars and always use flannel fender covers on the car.
