Hi all. My SS is bone stock, and I was thinking of putting in just a K&N filter to aid in preformance. The problem is that I've been told by the dealer and others that the K&N will break apart and screw up the MAF sensor. Any thoughts on just a filter replacement? shouldn't be a problem. There are quite a few here that run the K&N.

I've used a K&N filter in my '99 SS with no problems (both with the stock and SLP airlids). You may need to use an add-on gasket, supplied by K&N, to make a proper seal to the airbox lid. I bought my filter before the gasket was available, so I used oil resistant, adhesive backed, foam weather stripping to seal the lid to the filter.

We have had one in ours since 99, and no problems.

Dante, I have a K&N filter and a LS1 lid. No problems at all. I have a 99 and 34K miles. Dealer is jsut trying to keep you buying paper filters for a ridiculous price from them.

I agree with all the aforementioned. I have a Y2K SS and a Whisper Lid and K&N...no problems!

I'm about to buy a package deal from ls1motorsports. You get the Lid, K&N filter, and MAF for $299. I agree with everyone else here, these filters are far superior to a paper filter and will not harm your car.
The dealer is giving you usnsubstantiated urban legend.
