Seriously considering this for my car next month. This will be done in conjunction with a lid, filter and MAF. Will it change the way the stock exhaust looks on the drivers side profile?
I don't like the way the current y-pipe hangs down on the drivers side, especially since it is flat and just looks restrictive.
Can anyone share dyno and sound results?

If you don't like the fact that the stock y-pipe hangs down, you might be disappointed to know the SLP y-pipe actually hangs a little lower...it just looks better doing it. And it does sound better - my exhaust is a little louder and a bit more throaty since I installed it. As far as dyno results, I don't have any yet...give me a couple weeks until Steve & Teri get their new dyno installed.

I think on the 2000's it a bolt in - on the earlier SS's you had to mig weld the one side.
I had a local muffler shop install mine. It took about 45 minutes. Should be less than one hour of the door labour rate, plus it's easy for them to get the car in the air.
Does sound a little throatier and helps the exhaust free flow. I've heard 10-12 hp on the dyno but did not dyno mine.

And a good job that shop does too!! I don't think it makes much power difference but I think it improved the sound a little. I just couldn't stand seeing a pipe that looked squashed under my car!

I installed mine on my 99SS this past week. I did not have to weld it on the passanger side, I just used a exhaust clamp and it's tight enough.

Good to know! That's how it looked to me too. I think this is one I will attempt myself. I don't have a good shop in my area yet. I'd rather take all day myself than have it done by someplace I don't trust.

I can't really say I did it myself...I had the help of Steve Da Wrench (okay, so he did the majority of it). But it was certainly an easy job (easy enough that I'm thinking of switching back to the stock Y-pipe for a few dyno runs and then putting the SLP pipe back on). The front connectors are no problem...just back the bolts out. But you may need a hand with the back end as it might be stuck in there pretty tight.

Dave did the SLP Y pipe slide over the stock pipe on the passanger side and then you used a clamp?
If so how much of the pipes slipped into each other?

McGee's Auto Service is just a short 3-hour drive away. Steve currently has an SS in from Idaho for installation of a full menu of SLP parts and other mods over the next few days.

Yes the y-pipe slid over the stock pipe. I cut the old y-pipe about 1 1/2 inches from the centerline of the oxygen sensor as per instructions. The new y-pipe slid into the rear loud mouth pipe and onto the passanger pipe real easy and onto the driver's side flange. I sprayed the nuts and where the old pipe comes out of the rear pipe with penatrating oil the night before I did the install.

I found a guy who has the y-pipe, SLP lid, and K&N filter for sale...new in box. So, I'll just bring it all. I'd also like to change my tranny and diff to synthetics.

McGee's auto is a highly recommended shop. that is where i get all my work done. Steve really takes care of the cars that he works on.
