I noticed that your wifes SS has the Mito NVSŪ Mirror with Outside Temp and Compass and the GM Power Antenna. I shot her an email and she said that you actually installed them yourself. I'd be interested in an overview on the installation, especially on the mirror. Question concerns wiring. Is the power from the existing maplights sufficient to power it? Is running the cable through the firewall for the temp sensor much of a problem?

Hi, Gary! This was about 3 years ago that I did the mirror install, but will remember the best I can. The mirror installs onto the original bracket on the windshield. The terminals were the exact same kind in both mirrors, and the car, just the connectors were different. You will need to remove the terminals from the car side connector,and use the larger connector that comes with the mirror harness. Make sure you get the right wires in the correct terminal locations! I then routed the wiring across the front of the headliner trim panel(we have a convertible, but same idea on a coupe/t-top), then down the LH A-pillar. I dropped the wires as needed under the dash(cant remember which ones), then ran the temp sensor wiring through the hood release cable grommet under the LH side of the dash, and followed the cable and other wiring under the dash to make it look factory. I installed the sensor up by the washer bottle. The trick is to locate the sensor away from the radiator and condensor heat, the ground so it doesn't pick up too much ground/pavement temp,and away from the body panels so it doesn't pick up on direct sun heating the panels! You may have to play with its location a little. Ours reads high when sitting not running for awhile when you take off, then drops down to normal. I may need to relocate it again. I cant remember the rest of the details at this moment, but if you have any questions, feel free to ask. I will also post this on chirpthird once its up again!

I posted on the SLPEng forum about the rearview mirror upgrade and you responded with the one from Mito Corp. that includes the compass, temp and map lights. Is the installation difficult? Mostly concerned about routing and hiding wires under trim pieces.
How about the GM Power Antenna? I've seen several install procedures. Any ideas? Did you'all install yourself?

Gary, I just completed both the antenna and mirror install on my '02 SS convertible. I obtained a copy of an antenna procedure that helped, however there have been a couple part# cahnges. I used a GM (black) antenna, and a Gentex (through Mito Corp.) NVS, Comp./Temp mirror. I also purchased two GM fog lamp switches and wired those in as well. One overrides the antenna (ie. listening to CD's), ..the other is a 'spare' for now... (If you remove your dash plaque, ...you can add two fog lamp switches there. I even went as far as wiring in the reverse lights to the mirror to disable the NVS shading when puting vehicle in reverse. If you are still looking for details on the install, let me know. (kevink7@hotmail.com) I've been meaning to (very specifically) document the install for future reference anyway. This will only get me to do it sooner...
