OK, I got the number from SLP (6179). What does it refer to? I don't think it is sequential as someone near me inquired about an '01 SS and their number was bigger (6666). Any info would be appreciated.

SLP assigns build numbers as they receive the cars from GM. Some cars sit at GM for weeks before going to SLP, some only sit for days. It just depends on how GM moves them around I guess but it is definitely not a first out of GM, first in at SLP basis. Since SLP doesn't receive the cars in the same order they came off the production line, there are some cars that are actually built first yet have a higher SLP production number.
The numbering starts off new each year, so every year produces the same build numbers, or at least until they stop making them for that model year. For instance my 2000 SS is #5226 and has 2001 and 2002 brothers with the same build #.
Hope I didn't confuse you.

Thank you Mark! I understand now.

Yours is the 6,179th SS that SLP did in your model year for the U.S. As Mark said, not really related to your GM Serial # build.
The Canadian ones have their own numbers.

You will also have a separate # for the 35th Anniverary LE build (# of 3000). Hey, we can never know too much stuff about these cars, right? Posted by DWCamaro69 (Member # 1498) on :
SSteve_35th, How do I get my # of 3,000 for my 35th anniversary?
Posted by HTWLSS (Member # 117) on :
There are no individual 35th Anniversary #'s (well, the Brickyard cars were numbered).

Whatever you say. But I do know, from a highly placed source, what my LE production number was.
After all, they didn't make all of them all at one time. Even if they had been made all in one day, they still have to come off the line one at a time.
So there!!!!

There are no separate build numbers for the 35th's. We are not keeping any records for them. Steve, I don't know who you're highly placed source is, but they don't get much higher than me.
