I posted a similar thread over at the SLP board...thought I'd get the discussion going over here, too.

Let's have a brainstorm/dream session here.

If we start planning now, we could pool an investment into a large piece of land with development potential. Kerm & 'b0 (they're the old farts of the group) can get it rolling with the platting of the lots (1 acre each would be nice). As we retire, we'll each move there, build our dream house and garage and have a private community of nothing but car people.

Now, where is a good place to find that piece of property? Has to be somewhere with year-round mild weather and without natural disasters.....

What else should be on the wish list?

I'll start the list with this:

A community road course and drag strip.

Feel free to elaborate on their development.

The property definitely needs to have water frontage.

I had a similar discussion a few years ago with my friends in Corvallis. Their recommendation was to buy property in Idaho (it's relatively cheap). Then, when the big one (earthquake) comes and the west coast drops into the Pacific, the Idaho property would become premium ocean front.

I'm leaning motorhome and trailer.

This continent has too much beauty to commit to one place.

Add R.V. hookups and parking for our esteemed guests then!

Only way I'm leaving this lake is for a bigger one! Dock is a must have. A large barn for storing cars and numerous workshops.
We'll need our own body shops for both our modern hot rods and our classic collectibles.

Community car washing area, covered of course.

Airstrip that doubles as a drag strip.

Maybe ask Rupert - and residents get access to his track.

I thought there was already a place like this out west somewhere. No wait.... that's Gunsight - its for the gun people, not the car people. I think they have lots of shooting ranges instead of drag strips and autocross courses.

Actually, I think I read a story several years ago about a community somewhere - maybe in CA - that was established by people who loved classic cars. Might want to find out how that went to see if it worth going ahead. They may have already address issues that might need to be considered.

Just a thought,
