hello everyone,

As usual, I have not posted in awhile but I do have a good story about a race with a Ferrari last night.

I'm coming home from out on a cruise with the SS when I see a Ferrari stopped at the light. I end up stopped next to him, with only 1 car in front of both of us. We both pull away easy and wait for the cars in front of us to "stagger" so we could pass. They finally do and he makes his move to get around and I quickly follow. I'm right behind him (in third gear) and pull out to pass. As soon as I do this he nails it, but I was waiting for that so I hit it about the same time.

Just a quick note; this is at 9:30 p.m. on a Sunday night, going onto a major highway with no other cars in front of us or no exit or on ramps within 3 miles.

I pull about 2 car lengths on him in third gear and slam it into fourth. Redline fourth! Redline fifth! Throw it into sixth!! At this point he has managed to pull within a car length but that is all he could make up!!!! I end up burying the speedo and stay into it for another 10 seconds or so. I figure I was doing about 160 - 165 mph!!!!

At this point my heart is racing and I think it would be a good idea to slow down!! HA! So, I back off the throttle and just coast. He ends up pulling beside me and has a big grin on his face. I have a even bigger grin (I just beat a Ferrari) and give him the thumbs up.

So, what kind of Ferrari was it you are wondering? Well, to be honest, I really don't know which one it was exactly. It was a Ferrari BB (a model made in the late 70s), but I don't know what year. I did a little research on the Ferrari site to find out what engine, etc. it had. Basically it is a 12 cylinder with anywhere from 340 to 360hp with a top speed of 300Kph.

Anyway, that is my Ferrari race story and I hope all is well for my fellow f-body friends!

Rock

Rock,

What you raced sounds like a 512 Berlinetta Boxer. They were equipped with a 5 litre "boxer" 12 cylinder engine and are awesome cars. Quite rare, the early ones were carbuerated and sounded unreal and were quite expensive to federalize.

That was a great story and I'm sure he must have been very surprised by the outcome. It's nice that someone who owns a car like that is willing to "drive" it on occasion. Most of these cars accumulate only about 2000-3000 miles every 20 years or so .

Now - the rest of the storey - I found out who owns the Ferrari. Small city. He's owned it for
15 years, and I think he knows what an SS can do.

He's friends with a fellow who owns a 427 - 1999
SS that runs in the 9's. Approx 750 h.p.
