Does anybody else have a problem with the plastic grayish/silver lug nut covers falling off of the camaro ss's. This is on a 2002 camaro ss with the stock 17x9 10 spoke wheels (not the ZR-1 style wheels). Does anyone know if they are supposed to be held in place with any type of adhesive. Thanks.

If you carefully tighten them they should stay, someone on the board suggested putting a dab of locktite or any type of sealer on each one to keep them in place, not a bad idea.

I just snug mine up with a ratchet. Had one fall off last week. Found it at the bottom of the driveway. Guess I missed that one when I was tightening them up.

had two fly off going down the freeway because the dealership did not tighten them. just tighten them snuggly. dont over tighten them though, because they are just plastic and will easily crack.

Ya know, the Z06 has the same issue. I looked at a 2002 Z06 in the showroom last week and they had no covers. They changed the lug nuts so they have a nice finish to them and no cover is needed.
I just use a three inch socket ext with the socket and tighten that by hand (don't use the ratchet handle). That seems to hold mine tight enough.

Funny you should mention this. I just lost one the other day -- first time ever.
The real kicker is that GM wanted $4.50 for a new one Anyone know where to replacement a bit cheaper?

GM recommends a dab of "Permatex #2 Form a Gasket Sealant" on the cover threads (tech. advisory #01-03-10-009) to prevent the lugnut covers from backing off. I tried this with my chrome covers and they seem to be staying tight. Posted by NATESS (Member # 982) on :
i was able to get a bad of 5 for free from my dealership. maybe they can make the same deal with you.

What Dan said. Also be sure they are on straight. Since they are plastic you can actually put them on a little bit crooked and they will seem to be tight but they can actually just pop off very easily.

Subject: Plastic Wheel Nut Covers Missing and/or Loose (Replace Missing Covers and Add Sealant To All Covers)
Models: 2002 and All Prior Year Passenger Cars (Except All Cadillac Models) with Plastic Wheel Nut Covers
Condition
Some customers may comment that the plastic wheel nut covers are missing and/or loose.
Correction
Important: ^ DO NOT USE a silicone-based adhesive. ^ Do not apply the *Permatex(R) around the threads in a circular pattern. ^ Apply a single bead across the threads approximately 10 mm (0.4 in) in length, 5 mm (0.2 in) in height and 5 mm (0.2 in) in width.
Replace any missing plastic wheel nut covers with the appropriate covers and apply Permatex(R) # 2 Form A Gasket Sealant(R) to the threads of all the plastic wheel nut covers. Tighten finger tight plus a 1/4 turn with a hand wrench.

Yah, I'm having the same trouble. Actually, when I bought my SS, the was one missing then, and since then, had 2 fall, but got them replaced fromt eh dealer(free) Guess it depends on your dealer. And by the way, is there someplace where I can also find that entire center cap cover? the red bowtie has faded, or has completely come off. Anyone else have that trouble? Thanks, Dan
