Well, Friday afternoon they left me a message telling me that it's not ready yet, but hoped to have it ready Monday (today). So this afternoon I call them and it's still not ready. They say the 3rd gear syncro that Chevrolet sent them does not look like the one they removed from my tranny, and they were waiting for advise from Chevrolet. They can't tell me when it will be done, but it will be right when I get it back.
Now I'm not going to bad mouth my dealer because they've been very good to me, and I know they're taking good care of my car, but I am beginning to wonder if they have ever been inside a M6 before.
Sorry about the long post, but I miss my SS!
It sounds like your dealer is trying to take good care of you. They want to make sure the car goes back together correctly so that you don't have to return it and be unhappy. If the new part doesn't look the same as the old one, they just want to verify whether or not the repair spec's out a new part or if they were inadvertantly sent the wrong one from the warehouse. The 3rd gear synchro problem is well documented, so I'm sure any TSB's get into enough detail that it should be straightforward to repair it.
I can certainly empathize with missing your car. It's nerve-wracking to not have it in your own garage....
Good luck,
Andy

Anyway, happy ending to my story. I was able to pick up my SS tonight after 10 days without it. Didn't have much chance to drive it (maybe 12 miles) but everything seems fine so far.
Apparently Chevrolet sent my dealer a syncro without a non-metallic liner in the I.D., twice, and that was what held things up so long. They received the correct syncro yesterday and had it ready for me this afternoon. I'll get a chance to put a few miles on it next week, weather permitting, but I'm sure they took good care of it.
At least it's back in my garage for now!
See ?!?!?
I told you they were just trying to do the right thing.
When I got mine back, I had to drive it home in the winter slop. It's the only time since I've had it that it ever got driven in conditions like that. I had to wait almost 2 weeks before I had a warm enough day to wash it. Then of course, my wife couldn't pry me away from it until it was as spotless as the day I drove it off the lot.

Glad your car is fixed! Sorry it took so long. I'll consider myself lucky since my car was done in one day.
After a few weeks, my tranny is breaking in again nicely! I think you will be very happy you got it fixed.
