ALAS!!

Grumble, Grumble, Gripe, Gripe…

Just got back from the local Publix magazine rack and it is SOOOoooooo Depressing.

Ford is coming out with the new SC Cobra, the Mach I and GT 40 are on the way. Chrysler looking into a Viper V-10 equipped ½ to pickup and a friend of mine just got a flyer in the mail about a possible V-10 Viper equipped PT Cruiser pickup!

What is on the GM side of the ledger? Last year for the Camaro and Firebird! Anything fantastic? Nope, just decals and badges. Corvette has her 50th Anniversary. Anything fantastic? Nope, just decals and badges.

What is coming? Getting gloomier here! Possible Pontiac GTO from Downunder. No offense to Poncho owners but a 14.98 ¼ mile sedan is not very electrifying. Chevy BelAire, delayed version of the Ford T-Bird, all show, no go. SSR, could of, would of, should of. Instead of just decals and badges we are getting some rims. 6.0 liter monster motor? NOT!!!

What could have been and probably sitting in garage now: 2002 LS6 SC, 12 bolt, 35th Anniversary SS or equally equipped model ending Firebird.
50th Anniversary 7.0 liter C5 Corvette with SC option.

Heck they could have even kept the decals and badges.

Think it might be too late for a SC equipped SSR?

Oh well it did not or is not going to happen, but after seeing what Ford and Chrysler are up to it is VERY depressing.

Sure wish Inchon would get its act together so I could get the SS upgraded!

There’s a thought! GM could offer an upgrade package…

You're just not looking in the right places

GM PERFORMANCE PARTS QUADCAM SUPERCHARGER KIT
GM Performance Parts, long recognized as the leader in aftermarket performance V8 engines and components, has focused its attention on the booming front wheel drive market. The first of many specialized performance packages in development for front-wheel-drive racing and street performance enthusiasts is a supercharger kit for the QuadCam 2.4L engine, available for both the Cavalier and Sunfire.

"This package gives Cavalier and Sunfire owners amazing V-8-like performance at a fraction of the cost," Fitzgerald said. The venerable Roots-type Eaton Series 45 supercharger provides engine boost across the entire RPM brand, transforming the standard QuadCam into an import-eating thrill ride. The supercharger kit will be featured in a Pontiac Sunfire during the Hot Rod Power Tour.

Art: (rubbing eyes) I have to get my eyes checked, 'cause for a minute there I thought you were trying to say that a front drive ANYTHING was a suitable substitute for a performance/muscle car.

Yeah, what he said.

PS. If everything goes right I'll have the SS LE in its first car show on Saturday.

Hey Alfred, what's up? I feel your pain concerning the demise of the Camaro. But...I've suffered long enough after selling my Callaway Camaro. I've decided to buy one of these new '03 Cobras. Everything I've read and seen says this one is for real -- on the street or on the track. Never thought I'd go Blue Oval but with GM killing the Camaro/Firebird, the Mustang is now the only survivor. And just when Ford could have just sat it out they decide to pour on the mustard. That Mach 1 is a sharp ride (love the shaker hood) but it isn't going to offer the Cobra's supercharged motor. Can't wait to cruise in this beast! [Wink]

see this is exactly what Ford predicted and that is why ford is the only smart one out there. GM gets rid of there less expensive muscle car and leaves nothing in its place except a poorly designed monte ss and a way TOO expensive vette. GM is expecting people to stay with there product instead of going with the competion Ford. who has no plans of killing there muscle car. they plan on making it better and bringing more car enthusits to the blue oval! GM will lose all the camaro/firebird enthusits to Ford or possibly import brands. i got a chance to look at the new nissian z this weekend and its nice but i wouldnt buy it, a little too expensive for such a small car. the owner said they are going to start the pricing around 35k. which anyone who has seen it would go ..for what!!!!
it has been a sad day for anyone who owns a camaro or firebird. i also think that it is horrible that there are only 150 or so people registered for bowling green. i dont understand why everyone is waiting to sign up. we need to show GM that we need another muscle car now and not in 3 years when the damage will already be done and people who made the change from GM products get comfortable with whatever they buy to replace the muscle car they have now.

i just felt like venting my feelings about GM and what morons they are!

I think the GTO will offer similar numbers to our cars. At least there will be one GM offering in the "affordable" RWD performance car arena.

There will be a dark period here for a while. I believe alot of good things are going on in GM.

Problem is, they will need time to get products to market.
