i dont have a very long commute, just about 3 miles, and it is right down the main street of the city so it is very much stop and go. The lot that I park in is right off the main street by about 100 feet so when I noticed the motorcycle policeman behind me, I signaled for a right turn and turned right. I noticed he followed me so I signaled left and turned left into the parking lot. Just as I turn, he hits the lights. I park and say good morning to him. He said the reason he pulled me over was for tinted windows. I couldn't believe it...alomost 2 and a half years of driving the car every day and I had never had a word mentioned to me. I have been right next to cops before and they have not done anything. He then took my information, noting the lack of a front tag. He also wrote that one up. He said the tinting places are "about to be busted by the D.A." and that I should take my car back to the dealer to get the plate mounted. I just agreed with him and answered his questions. He asked if I did this to the car or if I bought it this way and I told him I did it. He told me that since it's a fix it ticket that I can have it signed off and I told him, yeah I'll have one of my brothers in law do it (they are both deputys) or my neighbor who is a Sgt. for the police dept.
Oh well...I knew it would happen eventually. And I am not going to fix anything either. I'll gladly deal with the fix it tickets to keep my car the way I want it.

In California, that means it's a citation that requires only correction rather than a fine. The idea is that they give you a ticket which says you have to make your vehicle comply with the laws within a certain amount of time. For example, he now has 30 or so days to remove the tinted windows AND install a front license plate. Afterwards in order to show proof that he's done that, he has to take the actual ticket to a law enforcement officer and have it signed. What the officer is "supposed" to do it sign the ticket only after looking over the car to see that the work has been done. Then all you do is mail the ticket to the court and you are only fined a small amount. It's been a while since I got a ticket for the tinted windows but I think they fined me only $12 after I showed proof of the corrections. I've heard lately that their clamping down on those who get multiple fix-it tickets, so now after a certain amount of tickets they will fine you for not complying. Hope this makes sense.

so when you just "deal" with a "fix-it" ticket, do you just pay the fine and not fix your car? or does the officer still have to come out and look at it no matter what? and if you dont fix your car by the time the officer looks at it, do you just pay the fine in full then?

yes. You are supposed to fix your car, in my case putting on the front plate and taking off the tint. Then I am supposed to go to the police station or DMV and have them sign off that the car now complies with the law. Hence the term "fix it ticket." I then pay a small fine, around $10, and I am free to go. It used to be a no fee ticket but now it is around $10.
However since I have two officers in my family and know many others, I will just have one of them sign off the ticket. Then I won't have to hassle with making the "corrections", especially when I would wind up puting them back the way they are now. I am surprised he didnt get me for the Loudmouth too, although I always say it really isn't that loud if you are taking it easy on the throttle.

I used to get those about once a month in Tucson, AZ. I had a '56 F-100 with blue dot tail lights, a bumper that obscured the license plate...etc. I found that many officers would not even inspect the truck to verify my fixs - they just singed off.
