My son went to Milan Dragway last Friday night for the Test and Tune session and the Friday Night Street Race. He took his SS S-10 pickup and was looking in his rear view mirror at a nice looking 1970 Chevelle SS 454 convertible. He recognizes the driver as former Detroit Red Wing and current Chicago Blackhawks ,Bob Probert. So he went to say hi and talked with him. No one there knew it was Probie all night! My son was even wearing his Detroit Red Wing tee shirt. This was Probert's 1st time at the track and did not know how to stage. My son taught him how to stage and he was soon cutting some real good lights. I was going to dinner when the cell phone rang. It was my son telling me that he met Probie and the next thing I know he hands Probie the phone and we talked for a little while. He even stated that he wanted to come out with us to the track the next time EMCC rents the track out and mentioned about bringing Darren McCarty with him to run their Harleys! So Probie and my son hung out for the next 4 hours at the track. Pretty cool! Posted by Sizzle (Member # 503) on :
Oh man, that's sweet Greg! I hope all the personal problems Bob had when he was with the Wings are just things of the past. He was alway's a good enforcer.

Yeah, I remember when he got busted at the Detroit-Windsor border with a Chevy Blazer full of dope! He had a few DUI's also that made the news. Maybe he cleaned up his act.

That is cool. I flew from Vegas to Chicago with Probie sitting next to me. He has scored two goals in a playoff game and was impressed with the fact that I had known he scored goals!! Ha ha. He also got a kick out of it when I told him that when they closed the Boston Garden, the gave Terry O'Reilly the penalty box. His wife sat with my wife. She told him how she told thier child that daddy get time out too when he was in the penalty box on TV. He was very nice. Had nasty knuckles seeing that it was the end of the playoffs!! I have heard he has straightened himself out. Good for him!

I bet that was an interesting flight! My son did say Probert's knuckles were all scars! Posted by amy00ss (Member # 106) on :
That is an awesome story! I am a Hockey fan but when your stuck in Oklahoma you don't run across too many NHL stars. I did meet John Vanbeezbruck (however you spell that). He was the goalie for the Tulsa Oilers (the farm team for the NY Rangers).

Pretty cool that you also met a professional hockey player. My son would know how to spell his name! Posted by DaddySS (Member # 848) on :
Ah the great and surprising folks we meet in our pursuit of this passion!
Congrats to you and your son!

Here's a little trivia - my wife used to baby sit for Probert and his brother. She grew up 2 doors down from him.
Cool - he's still into cars. When he first got into the NHL he bought a Monte Carlo SS!

If it did not rain on Monday evening,Bob Probert and Darren McCarty were going to run their cars or Harleys at Milan. The EMCC had rented the track and my son and I invited them to come out. He has a very nice and fast Chevelle. Helps to have a 502/502 under the hood! Posted by DROPTAWP (Member # 865) on :
