I want to polish the factory exhaust on my SS - the section around and including the muffler. The 'mill finish' stainless has weld splatters and something that looks like rust. I've tried working on it under the car but I'm having problems with that. It would be so much easier if I could get it out from under the car. Is it possible to remove the rear part of the exhaust system without cutting it or dropping the rear axle? Posted by 2002Z4CSS (Member # 1393) on :
I don't think you will get it out without cutting the system or dropping the shock and spring from one side.I polished mine on the car with some MAAS polish that Mary and Ralph gave me in Ohio. I have to say that stuff really works. Here is the shine on my stock galvanized muffler that now looks like chrome plating!It is available at Home Depot! Thanks Mary and Ralph for giving me a tube of it!

It will not come out without dropping the rearend down by disconnecting the shocks. You may have to disconnect some other stuff too. It best done on a rack though.
