Time for new tires, (at 17,000 mi) They tell me this is acceptable with Z rated tires and particularly the wide size (not to mention there is an set of curves on my route home from work).
I've been searching for new tires and a tire company I have dealt with for at least 10 years was able to get me a good deal on BF Goodrich G-force T/A's (about $725 for all four installed) What kind of tires are you guys using and how do you like them??? Is this a good deal??? Until I bought this car I drove 4X4's so I don't know squat about high performance tires. Any help would be appreciated.

thats actually a decent tire for that kind of money normally you will find that these tires run about 225-300 per tire range. ive seen cheaper but i dont think they last as long.

Whenever my tires wear out, I'd like to get a set of Yokohama AVS Sport Tires. They run $222 on tirerack.com and are supposed to be one of the best all around. The only thing is, I use my car in the winter time as well. So technically, I should get a second set for winter driving if I get these. The BF Goodrich you're talking about go for $272 at the same place so that's a sweet deal you have. Tirerack is the cheapest place I've seen tires. Anywho! Just my 2 cents!

Which G-Force T/A did they quote you the price for? KD's are the most expensive, and have garnered high praise for their dry traction (but not too good in the wet). KDW's are a big improvement over the stock F1's (for less money). There's also the KDWS, which is more of an all season tire.

I have the KDW's and they are a big improvement over the stock Goodyears. I would recommend them. I also have Kumho's on the Mustang (gasp ) and they are really good tires and seem to be holding up really well to the mileage. They handle and ride as well as the BFG's. If you want to save some $$ then look at the Kumhos.

Hi there! I'm a little late here but I'm also looking into new tires. I have G-Force KD's. They were installed at 7,000 miles and I'm now at 37,000. That's pretty good, I think. I don't race and I'm relatively easy on #31. What's the best price on KD's anyone's seen? Best deal I've heard so far in San Diego is $268 per tire and about $1100 installed and balanced.

Wow, 30k? Yipes! I have just over 11k on my original F1 tires and will need to replace probably 2 of the tires by winter time. Of course...I'm a "spirited Driver" lol
Sounds like you have a good deal with those KD's. Tirerack.com has them for $272 + shipping, and tires.com has them for $282 adn free shipping. Nevertheless, I need to find a place that sells them cheaper as well. I'm lookin to get those tires or the Yokohama AVS sport next. Good Luck!

Any votes for the Nittos? I'm surprised more people don't like them only because GM high tech performance was so big on them.

It also depends on what kind of weather you may likely drive in. I've been thinking about the Firestone Firehawks SZ-50 which are supposed to be alot better the the GY, especially in the rain. But they aren't cheap either.

I wanted to try the Nitto's, but they were not yet available in the size I needed. So I put on the KDW's. It was a HUGE improvement over the F-1's I had on it! I drive my '69 in the rain a lot (I live in Oregon, what can I say!), so I had to go with an all season tire. My room mate works at Dicount Tire Co.. At the ride and drive he attended. They tested the BFG KDW, Nitto 555, and Eagle F-1's. By far the KDW's out perfomed the Eagle F-1's. The Nitto's are a great tire, but the KDW's out performed them especially in wet traction. Wear factor is about equal on Nitto & KDW. I'm using the Nitto, But my roommate went and bought the KDW's after the ride and drive. He drives a 00' Z-28.
P.S. Try tires.com or take a Quote to the Discount Tire store. They'll match total cost.

Kevin, I put the SZ-50s on my '95 Impala SS right after they first came out (I had to wait about 6 weeks after ordering them). Anyway, they made a tremendous improvement in the ride, handling, wet traction, and road noise in that car. But you know what they say - YMMV.
