Now that everyone is back from bg, doing well, I need some help. I just went and blew my second rear seal. I dont know why I am doing this. I dont have anything besides a intake box, mass, and other intake parts. here is the kicker, I blew the first seal while the car was stock. All it had was an air filter. I dont know what i am doing wrong. if there is any other information needed to help with this question, let me know and i will supply it. Thanks, Matt

When you say rear seal I assume you mean the pinion seal? When you say blew I assume it has started leaking or did something else happen? There have been some pinion seal problems, porous housings around the seals, bad yokes, etc. When you say it blew again does that mean it was fixed onec, it was OK and now it's leaking again?

i bought the car, and in about 2 months the rear main engine seal went out, and started leaking. I noticed this when i changed my oil. I took it in to the dealearship (I dont have the tools to do it my self) and they kept it for 5 days. When i got it back i didnt check to see if it was fixed, but now that i think about it, it still was losing oil. I now have a rattle by the front left wheel, and i looked under there to see what i could find. When doing this I noticed that oil was leaking from the area where the rear main seal is. I dont know for a fact that they replaced it. I was going on there word, which i probally need to start to look at more. so yea it was broken, "replaced", then it broke again. I dont run it hard, i take great care of it, and dont know why it does it 2 times with in the last 5 months.

Matt,
I'm not sure what year car you have, and/or if you bought it new??, ...but regardless, if you are having rear seal problems, it would seem to me to be unrelated to any 'mods' you have done to your car, ...unless of course any mods were done "internal" to the engine.
If a rear seal is to start leaking, it 'usually' might happen after some miles are on the car. If your car has miles on it, ...then I wouldn't be totally surprised by a leak. YET, if as you mentioned (questioned) the dealer replaced it, ...and then it's leaking again, ...I'd really be wondering if they replaced it in the first place.
Now, ...if your car is new (under warranty?), ...I'd be back to the dealership in a heartbeat. If you have a new car (and/or one with fairly low mileage) a leaky rear seal should/would not be expected. ...and if you do go back to the dealership, ...I'd not only be right underneath it checking to see they did the work, ...I'd also 'mark' something so I at least knew they 'opened it up'. Even then, I'd be checking it periodically for the leak.
Bottom line, a leaky rear seal is usually from wear (ie. miles) If you don't have miles, then I'd be thinking something was wrong with it from the beginning.
Hope this helps...
