I can pull my shifter out of the boot of my car. It looks like there was a bushing or something that kept it from being loose that wore off. It's hard to explain, but if anyone has any idea what i'm talking about message me.

Your message would probably get more responses under "General Discussion". Anyway, ...it sounds like the rubber shifter bushing wore out (( )), ...never heard of that before. I'd post in General Discussion to see what others have to say... ...If this is the problem, ...easy fix, ...just take the two bolts out and change the shifter arm, (like swapping in a "Lou's Short Stick")...
Hope this helps...

The shifter sits in a rubber sleeve, I assume to dampen vibration. You can glue it back in with black weather strip adhesive that binds metal to rubber, replace it, or get a replacement like lou's short stick.

50 bucks for a short stick..You'll love it and wonder why you didn't do it the first day you owned it! Posted by DanPazich (Member # 1352) on 08 October, 2002 11:41 AM:
I was wonderring about that as well (installing Lou's Short Stick). I just have the stock M6 on my SS and wondered if you think I should should also buy an aftermarket short shifter (slp, hurst, pro 5.0, etc.) Or will this be a big change in itself. Also, is it hard to install just the short stick? Granted, I don't know too much about cars. Thanks a bunch you guys! Posted by T TOPSS (Member # 1674) on 09 October, 2002 04:33 AM:
It really was pretty easy...The console part only has a couple of screws under the ashtray or was it in the compartment..I don't remember. The short stick comes with nice instructions that tell you all of this. Once the console section is removed all you do is remove two bolts in shifter from tranny and bolt up short stick, put boot and knob from old one on it and whalllaa...clip console section in and screw it...lol. It's really an awesome easy cheap upgrade. You'll feel like you're more in touch with the car.

Thanks a lot T TOPSS....I would really like to do that. Would be my first mod and seems easy and cheap, though it won't boost the performance. Can't afford much at this time so maybe I'll shoot for that. Once a get a few extra bucks I wanna just do the air box lid and STB. Will let you know what i decide Posted by T TOPSS (Member # 1674) on 10 October, 2002 04:57 AM:
Thats exactly all I have done.. I got the SLP oem airbox and a BMR stb...The short stick doesn't boost performance..but you'll gain by not missing shifts!!!

You have to take the console out for either one (shifter or short stick). Might as well do both while your in there!

Shifter might be more involved than what I might be able to handle. Don't know too much about cars. But thanks for the suggestion. I'm still debating. Posted by RagSS (Member # 1127) on 10 October, 2002 12:41 PM:
...Shift arm (ie Lou's short stick) ==> two bolts ..Shifter itself, ...==> 4 bolts. Either one is easy to do, no prior experience necessary. If you have the Hurst shifter already (not sure if you do), ...I'd just get the short stick.

I'm seeing double again...of course...it could be my vision....
That easy huh? I thought it was more involved. Well... hmm... I only have the regular factory M6...choices choices choices... Posted by DanA_F99_1977 (Member # 118) on 10 October, 2002 03:32 PM:
OK, so I can't spell. At least I only make my spelling mistake in one post in one post in one post. Ha ha.
Thanks, the interview went great. Now I wait. Oh, a poet!

That easy. If you can swing the bucks, go with a shifter. The Pro 5.0 is a big improvement over the factory Hurst so it would be an even bigger upgrade over the stock shifter. You could run with the stick that comes with it though the short stick is even nicer.
