I'm planning on putting in 4.10's on my 2002 SS and I heard that there is a problem in putting in 4.10's on the 2001's and 2002's, something about a part rubbing, a paddle??? [confused] Sorry, I'm not up on all the details in the diff. I have the Torsen.

Has anyone installed 4.10's in their 2001 or 2002 SS. Did you have any problems or know what the problem is???

Kevin,
SLP sells a "paddle kit" which they suggest should be used when installing 4.10s on a Torsen diff. I have the Auburn Hi-Torque (no need for a paddle kit)so I'm not all that familiar with what's required, but I do know that the paddle kit is not necessary (at least on the '98, '99, and '00 models. There is definitely a way around having to use the paddle kit. Check out ls1tech.com or ls1.com and do a search on gear intallation. We have 3 members in our Toronto club who have installed 4.10s in their Torsen without this paddle kit. Good luck!

Best regardSS,

Elie

Kevin,
Here's what you need (besides the "paddle kit" - if you think you'll need it):
pinion bearings
side bearings
pinion sleeve
collapsable spacer (or crush sleeve)
pinion nut
axle seals
shims (assorted)
differential additive
differential fluid

With the fluid and additive + our ridiculous 15% tax in Ontario, all this came to about CDN$195 which works out to approx. US$135. Lop off the diff in tax between Ky. and Ontario to make the estimate more accurate. These items can all be purchased as individual part #'s. If you'd like, I can fax you the parts bill from the dealer so you can have the GM parts #s.

Best regardSS,

Elie
