What kind of gas milage are you guys getting for city and highway driving? Specifically I'm interested in stock SS's with auto trans. Thanks.

Hi there!
When I did a Vegas run the summer before last, from San Diego, I figure I got around 350 miles a tank. That's with a 6-speed. It's a lot less around town!

Hmm...I usually drive mostly highway miles but drive a little more 'aggressively' adn would say I get close to 250 miles to a tank on average. Cruising around town and such I will get 180-200 mpg. ON long trips I will get 350 mpg. Hope this helps. [silly]

I know you mean mile per "tank" [Wink] [Smile]

6 speed with 4.10 gears here .... my average over 3 1/2 years and 54,000 miles is 20.7 mpg. I can hit as high as 30 mpg on a steady cruise though 24 - 26 is more typical and I get 14 - 18 in town.

My '02 SS LE is a completely stock automatic convertible except for the K&N air & oil filters. I only get around 20mpg on trips and I'm not a 'hot rodder'. That seems low to me. I was hoping it would improve as the engine got broken in. I have just under 5000 miles on it now. Do I have a problem or is that about right?
[confused]

Haha..oops!...Thanks poSSum, and yes, I mean miles per tank. I forget what i average with mpg..i think it's around 22-25. on my trip to Tennessee, I was really surprise how well I did on gas. Got almost as good as my Z24!

I have the same as you SSteve, except I am still running on the original air filter. Mixed driving but mostly highway driving and not a "hot rodder" either. I get about the same MPG as you, 18-20, so I think you have nothing to worry about. I did see a slight improvement... about 1 MPG... around the 5,500 to 6,000 mile mark.

I have a 35TH LE and was getting a little over 21 MPG. [Smile] Put on the SLP LM and I lost 1 MPG at last time I chacked. [Frown] Mabey I should shift soomer rather than listening to the LM. [Big Grin]

On my stock 01 SS company car (6 speed) I regularly got 26-28 on the highway.... I drive almost all highway miles.

I have been getting 20-21 city and about 26 hiway with the 2002 SS vert automatic. I was hoping for a bit more on the hiway like my 1999 Z-28 t-top coupe did. It got 22 city and 28 hiway. Maybe the added weight of the vert making it get a bit worse mileage.

With my LT1 auto I've done 31 on the highway, driving nice. In the city I'm usually around 12-15.

Well yeah, rub our noses in it! Geesh, an SS company car! That sure beats my '00 Express 1500 service van - but I can carry more stuff than you.
[Razz] [Big Grin]

About 3 years ago I had a seafoam green '66 Belair station wagon as my company car. That was soooo cool. You could just about hold a dance in the back of that thing with the seats folded down. My clients loved it. Of course someone pulled out in front of me and I had to get something else but it was really fun while it lasted.

On the trip to SLP day in Vegas 2 weeks ago, I averaged 25 MPG, and that included steady speeds of 80-90 thru the desert and 5 trips down the drag strip!!

I usually get anywhere from 15 MPG (mostly around town, or when I was driving only 2 miles to work and the car couldn't even warm up) to 20 MPG (combination city/freeway/playing [Wink] ).

Hope that helps!

Working for the Company has "Some" fringe benefits..... Had to turn that bad boy in and now I'm "stuck" driving and avalanche. Boy I miss driving an SS every day... [Frown]

I'll bet the top down doesn't help either! [Smile]

On our trip to BG this summer, we averaged slightly over 19mpg for the entire trip(AND we we were towing the 1500 lb SST!!!). Ours is a 99 6spd convert.

I never thought of that! Good point! Most of the miles I drove it was with the top down. [Smile]

Quite a range from different owners. Mine is a bone stock 2002 SS automatic with 4000 mi. 17 mpg city and 23 mpg highway driving conservative is the best I've ever seen.

Gas mileage? In an SS Camaro? I'm not sure I understand the question. You on the right site? Just kiddin'... interesting the range of responses!

That's actually one of my favorite parts of the car when talking about it ... looks great, handles like it's on rails, runs real low 13 second quarter miles, tops out at over 150 mph (haven't actually tested that myself) ..... and gets near 30 mpg cruising on the Interstate ... that's as good as 4 banger economy cars got 15 years ago.
