These are the very types of people I don't ever want to become. "2000 SS" with 40 miles on it in the first post ------- WTF was he/she thinking? That's exactly not what I'd do, is buy a new car, park it, then try and sell it a couple years later. If it goes for around 25 or 26, maybe that's because they just don't want the car anymore. But anything more than that, sorry. As of right now, a little more searching can get you full warranty and buy a brand new one off the lot with a lot less miles on it than that. And if financing, probably better to go new anyway.

I really don't understand the pinheads (don't ask me what I really think of them) who buy nice, desireable cars and sit on them for the sole purpose of trying to make a buck. Like they were going to reap plenty on return. Hardly. Cars, as a general rule, as we all should know, are not the typical money maker in the long run. Better spent on real estate IMHO.

Don't get me wrong, anyone who tries to keep the mileage down and is fanatical about taking care of their car because they want to enjoy the car for a long time, but continue to own it, has my utmost respect. But so does anyone who buys these kind of cars to do as the good General had intended....DRIVE and ENJOY them! I don't want others down the road to enjoy what I paid for. I didn't buy my SS for the "next generation", I can tell you that much. They can do like I did and read about them in the history books/hot rod/muscle car magazines. I plan on taking care of my car and keeping it for a long, long time, but I'm also gonna have fun doing it.

I agree with el ess 1! We drive our cars(although not that much) and enjoy them. I have absolutely no desire to sell any of them(except the 69), I just want to keep them nice! The best part about these people(and it makes me laugh when I see it), is when they pay more than top dollar for a special car (like they did when the 90 ZR1 came out for $90-110k, or the 93 Camaro pace car for $60-70k), and then try to sell it years later, got absolutely NO use or fun out of it, had to pay for storage all those years, and then cant sell it for $40k for the vette, or 20 for the Camaro!!!! What fools! Cars are not part of an investment "portfolio"!! They are made to have fun with! Those people are the ones that drive the prices of the old ones up for us people who like them, and they dont even use them! Ok, will step down from my soap box now! [Wink] [Big Grin]

BTW, this is Steve, NOT Teri(I accidentally got on under her screen name, as she was still logged on as the user!) See what I get for not being a computer wiz! [Razz]

Yes, well, sorry I got a bit carried away, because really, to each their own, who am I to judge?

It's just that if you ever get around a bunch of car enthusiasts, regardless of the make, and they start talking about the great times they had in their cars years ago with the "This one time, at band camp..." stories. It's crazy what people have done in/on/around/with their cars over the years. And wildly entertaining to listen to. This is part of a person's history, their life with their car.

It always amazes me when some of the "old geezers" (of which now I'm becoming) starts talking about things like when they bought a 69 Z28 new, or used to have a friend with a Yenko, etc. They didn't buy them back then to keep them and sell them, they bought them to have a blast in! It's stories like these that help keep our hobby alive and interesting. Sure, it's nice to hear when someone has an immaculate car stashed back that they don't drive much, but what cool stories can they tell? "Yeah, I washed it a couple years ago. Changed the air in the tires while I was at it. Started it up and ran it for a while last spring...." No matter how fast your car MIGHT be if it were ever driven, remember all cars travel at the same speed when parked. C'mon.....

To only own a car for the purpose so that others may covet and/or to try and make a profit from when selling, I do not believe is in the spirit of the true enthusiast. Drive it, you just may like it.

The people that never drive these Camaros ,are really missing out on a fun experience. The odometer to me is just a counter for the next oil change interval. [Smile]
