Well, it happened to me, too....the black plastic caps have flown the coop on the pass side.... I remember when I was turning wrenches GM had black metal capped lug nuts on some cars, does anyone know if they make them for the SS?
I could see scraping out the permatex from these plastic caps (GM's solution) every time I do a tire rotation being a PIA!!!

I believe there is a TSB for the missing black plastic lug caps. Here is the # 01-03-10-009 Nov.1

They state in the TSB that you just put a small dab across the threads, just to keep them from vibrating loose. I have had to remove mine afterwards and it's a breeze. So get the replacement caps, put a dab on and don't worry about it. Posted by 35th6spd (Member # 1243) on :

Lots of people have had problems with their nuts...er..uh.. their lug caps . I have never lost one. I always make sure they are on STRAIGHT...not necessarily tight. They can go on at an angle and the threads will cross and they can pop right off when this happens. The gorilla lugs are nice but pricey.

I had a similar problem of the chromed lug nut caps disappearing but that was after I took it into the dealer to have a rim removed since SLP crossthreaded the lugnut and ruined the stud. The technicians at Chevy broke two of the caps when they put them back on and then forgot to tighten most of the others. In the end I found some cheap chromed replacements from:
