I use my motorcylce helmet and no one has ever stopped me.

As long as it's an approved helemt DOT, Snell etc. I don't think it matters.

I tend to agree! I use a HJC motorcycle helmet at the track. [Smile]

I would assume that the track has a SNELL rating requirement ... probably either '95 or '00.

As long as cycle helmet ALSO has that rating.... yer all set.

IF they even check it at all !

Check with the track you plan to run at. Our local track currently lists -Helmet (Snell 85 or SFI 31-1 min) in their rules.

there is a difference in motorcycle and car helmets. the car helmets have a Snell rating, motorcycle helmets do not. usually tracks like to see Snell 95 or better, (you can just ask the staff members at your trck).
motorcycle helmets are meant to take one hit (you hit the ground and slide), and then they are considered no good. car helmets are meant to take several hits (car rolling over).

as far as i understand, car helmets are better than motorcycle helmets.
i guess it all depends on how much you care about your melon.

hope this helps. [Smile]

the helmet that i got is snell 2000 rated. the only time i had trouble with my old helmet last year was at SLP day in hebron, ohio. they couldnt find the sticker that had the snell rating anywhere and told me they would let me go ahead and run but i would need a new helmet if i raced at trails anymore. trails will be going to snell 95 for next season. so since i have a motorcycle helmet with snell 2000 i should be just fine then. thanks for the replies.

You mean you can't roll over and over after falling off a motorcycle? [Razz]

well, i have no personal experience from falling off a motorbike, (knock on wood), but from people who have, they said that, (for the most part), when you hit, you then slide on the ground. [Razz]

Go to the SNELL website for mor detailed info.

Mostly, it's up to the sanctioning body of the track or activity that you're participating in.

There is "supposedly" a difference in fire resistance that is better in A[auto] since you can be trapped in flames,as compared to M[motorcycle]where you are thrown free!!!!
