(I thought I had posted this here last Tuesday, but I just remembered I had some problems getting to this board.)
Linda and I had just come out of Linens 'n Things in Totowa and were heading up the aisle towards our car. Suddenly we heard a thump, a yell and screeching tires. As we turned, we saw a car that had been parked at the curb in front of the store next to Linens 'n Things accelerate very quickly, zip past the store fronts and turn towards the back of the stores. Where the car had been there was a lady on the ground, and we initially thought that the car had hit her. But when we came over, we found out that it was an elderly lady with a walker, who had pulled up to the front of the store so that a store employee could load packages in her car. She had popped the trunk, and had got out of the car to walk back to show where the packages should go. I guess she left the car running, as the carjacker jumped in the front seat and took off. I don't know how he managed to hit her: either he shoved her, or she was leaning on the car, but she was knocked down. Fortunately it appears she wasn't hurt. The stolen car was a green 2001 Ford Taurus. I called it into the Wayne police via 911, who passed it onto the Totowa police. I think some others there also called it in, 'cause the Totowa police got there very quickly.
Please folks, as this holiday season kicks off, realize that there are scum out there who will take advantage of anything. Stay safe and keep aware of what you are doing.

I read it when you posted it on the other forum, and it's still scary!

Seems like so many people have very little respect for other people and their property these days. I wonder how long we are going to have to put up with it before it gets better. I guess once we pay enough money so that every square inch of earth is covered by a camera 24/7, have everyone's DNA, fingerprints & facial profile stored in a database, & enough cops to chase them all down we'll be safe.
