Now, is anyone interested in a BLUE or BLACK 1:18 scale Camaro SS? Apparently, these are either new or very hard to find colors. I was at the Kaybee toy store a few days ago because someone told me they had Camaros there and snagged their last displayed LE version. I don't know why it didn't cross my mind to post it here the other day. I already have a couple of silver (closer to pewter) versions. The total price with tax was around 18.05. They had 2 blue ones and 1 black one that I could see, maybe more, not sure. If anyone is interested and can't find any around their area, I can go back tomorrow (they're not open today) and check to see what's left or what they have out. This has been a Camaro Public Service Announcement.

I'd like to get a couple of the Blue ones, please. We've been looking around here w/out any luck.

Hmmmmm...I know Welly is building a 35th Ann, a Black SS, a Silver SS and a White SS...have not seen the NBM -- but It sticks in my mind that I saw a SOM ss at Auburn at a vendor when we auctioned off the last saleable Z. if so, I gotta contact Welly and find out what colors they;re doing............
There's a store near Mars (my hometown) in Valencia PA that carries them. You can find them at www.diecastcountry.com --

I double checked when I saw them and they were NBM cars. First, I thought they were black. I don't think the blue is quite as deep though as the real NBM. There was also another couple of Chevies that were there too worth mentioning, a red and a black '70 Chevelle SS convertible. Unsure if they were Welly or not, they had all of the 1:18 scales on the same shelving.
I'll check tomorrow and if they're still there, I'll snag a couple of blue ones up for ya, Teri.
Mind you, they are not convertibles. They got that fake black T-top look and if I remember right the roof band is body color on all of them.

Yup, that's the same NBM I picked up for Kevin V. I"ll be on the look out for more Camaros since I work in the same mall as a K B Toys. I"ll keep everyone informed as well Posted by Voiceguy (Member # 844) on :
I picked up a Welly black SS in the late summer at one of the cruises in La Mesa (San Diego area). it's an '02, but that's OK...it looks quite a bit like Black Beauty in the box, and it hasn't been outside yet.

Thought I'd post this link to some Camaro diecasts. They sell the Welly Camaro's (1/18) for $17.50. If you can't find what you're looking for in a store check DieCastMuscle. (Looks like they have Black, Silver, White, and Red(35th).
Scott, ...SOM??? you say you saw one in Auburn (Indiana?), ...do you recall the vendor?? or brand? ...for obvious reasons you know I'd love to get my hands on one in SOM...
For those that have the NavyBlue, ...what BRAND is it?? If not Welly (which I suspect), ...maybe they make the SOM as well . It will be worth a call to the company...
Posted by Fbodfather (Member # 1119) on :
Welly is the only diecast company that I know of that we licensed.
I will contact them to find out in what colors they come in. You are correct in that all the roof bands are body color....also, the dimensions are slightly off on the front clip and the roof band...but overall, for the price, not a bad job. (interiors are incorrect also..but hey, licensing never sent me the plans....)
RaggSS.....I've been looking for the SOM ever since.....(it may have been the heat that day!!!!) but I will contact Welly and find out what's what.....

I now have the Welly 35th Anniversary LE Brickyard 400,VIN #2. It is even a 6 speed. Too bad they don't make the 35th Anniversary LE convertible... Posted by Hookerf14 (Member # 1602) on :
Teri, I have a NBM if you want it. LMK
PS I also bought a Black and have 1 extra 35th LE. For club members only.

Opened mine up on Christmas and almost had a heart atack. . I knew that the rims on the LE were not right but when I saw the interior I thought that somebody was playing a sick joke.

I ordered all of the colors from Welly (Red LE, Black, White, Silver) when they were released earlier this year. The shipping for all 4 was supposed to be around $9. Diecast Muscle shipped every color seperately and I got nailed for shipping of $7.50+ on each one. I wasn't too happy paying over $30 shipping on something they could have sent in one box together (since a case of them comes in a quantity of 6). I won't order from them again if they won't group my order into one box to save on shipping.
Curious thing is I ended up buying two white ones. They have different boxes. The boxes on the LE's are also different and have a couple of variations. The true collectors will seek out each box version, along with the ones with the correct wheels.

I ordered a black one (like my baby) and it sits on the shelf at home. I ordered it in July, I think I got it in September. I have a 35th LE that I got at Kay Bee a while ago, for $12 on clearance.

The 1st Welly 35th Anniversary LE that I ordered from diecastmuscle was in a silver/gray box and it has the wrong wheels. My son ordered another 35th Anniversary LE from the Chevy Mall and it came in the much nicer 35th Annivsersary LE box that looks like the 2002 Camaro brochure. It even has the correct wheels this time around. Posted by 35th_camaro_ss (Member # 1738) on :
I have some of the 35th models, the red limited boxes and the regular boxes. Not exact model, but they did a pretty good job and kept it at a low price.

DanPazich, wanted to let you know the car came in the mail yesterday unscathed. If you didn't get the check yesterday, you should get it today.
Thanks!!!

hmmm...i might just have to get a silver one and paint some flames on it....lol!
Posted by Fbodfather (Member # 1119) on :
In talking with Welly, they tell me they did not do NBM or SOM....so my question is this: The NBM diecast...what brand is it????
Posted by DanPazich (Member # 1352) on :
Hey Kevin, glad it got there safely. Had to make a box for it to fit in, haha. And yes, I got the check yesterday as well. Glad to help you out!! Posted by DanPazich (Member # 1352) on :
Scott, It says right ont eh box Welly! So I dont know how it came into existence! Posted by Kevin V 2002 SS (Member # 1025) on :
The navy blue SS that Dan sent me was a Welly.
Posted by KullSS (Member # 1703) on :
Why no Pewter?

Whoops! Let us know when you find out the "rest of the story".
Posted by RagSS (Member # 1127) on :
Hmmm, ...let's see. Welly didn't produce a NBM, ...but it exists! So the logic would go, ...Welly didn't produce a SOM either, ...So it must exist too
... I wish!

I want a NBM diecast SS!!!!! Posted by Mark F98-0050 (Member # 317) on :
I found a blue one at the KB today. It's not a match to NBM, but it's a dark blue. And it's a Welly.
Posted by MMMM_ERT (Member # 1599) on :
Heres my input...
I have all 4 original colors. Red, Silver, Black, White and just found the 5th color NBM. They are all Wellys.
The red 35th LE edition came with standard (non-black) 10 spoke wheels.
I received my Black and White models a couple months after the first Red 35th LE and the silver were released. The Black and White versions now have the 35th LE Black wheels on them. ??? So, I just switched wheels between the White model and the 35th LE model....whalahhh...correct look.
A few weeks ago I found the NBM (or VERY close to NBM) version at KBtoys. BTW...it also has the 35th LE wheels on it.
Those who are complaining about details....what do you want for $17.00? The detail is pretty damn good in my eyes. ....and IM just glad someone decided to do the SS finally in 1:18 scale.

I have a die-cast related post waiting in the Conference Room for discussion by the SSOA Directors. Are there any special color(s) you members would like to see?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm....
The only other two colors that have not surfaced yet.
Sunset Orange Met Light Pewter Met
Maybe a Berger car! That would be sweet
EDIT: had some time to think of another version.... The Dale Earnhardt edition SS would be a bitchin model to do too.

SUNSET ORANGE ...

There are two dark blue Welly 2002 Camaro SS's up for grabs on Ebay. Here is the link:

Man-Oh-Man, Welly really do get things wrong! Not only did they put the non-LE SS wheels on the LE's and the LE wheels on the non-LE SS's, but on their Web Site they spelt Camaro as "Camero" on more than one Page. Wait, there's more.... They have a pic of a 35th Ann LE and underneath the pic it says ' 2001 Chevrolet Camaro SS '.
Ahhhhh, quality! Posted by DanPazich (Member # 1352) on :
Makes you wonder if they really care about Camaros...just in for the money.
BTW-I vote for light pewter metallic. Posted by THEOS SS (Member # 1484) on :
Sunset Orange if at all possible, would sure like to have one made rather than paint it myself.

A red one w/o the LE stripes.

For anyone interested the Welly diecast can be made into drop top without much trouble. It does though require the hard boot cover being scavanged from the '96 ragtop made by Ertl. No going back to hardtop, when done.

Interesting! How did you do the rear decklid though? (the part that is different without the rear window.)
Posted by SS Derek (Member # 1720) on :
To fill in the space you must use aluminum or plastic (available at hobby store). Trace the outline from the discarded rear window and from the piece taken from the Ertl diecast. Then use hobbist body filler to finish the seam and then paint.

...any pics of a finished "conversion"? I already have a black '02 Welly apart with plans for an SOM paint job. If this isn't too tough to do, ...I may go for it. Thanks, Kevin

A nice surprise.
Was at the local hobby store at noon, and found a black 1/18 Welly '02 SS, with the gray interior. Bought it, plus some chrome five spoke 1/18 wheels & tires, and some bright red paint. Now the work begins to convert it to my 1999 SS C071. Posted by HTWLSS (Member # 117) on :

Nate, go north on I-5 to Centralia, WA to the Kay Bee Toy Outlet. That's where we located one.
