I spent 12 hours or so a week ago cleaning the underbody of the SS to get it ready for a indoor car show. It was driven thru rain for several hundred miles last September for the F-body Gathering in Bowling Green,Ky. Finally got around to the car.I still have cuts healing from the darn heat shields,LOL!

Looks great, Greg.
You're putting me to shame as I still have to clean most of underside road grime from the BG trip, off mine, to get ready for the 2003 show season.

I bet I did miss a few spots. My hip bones were so sore from laying on the cement for all of those hours,I could not even wear a belt for a couple of days. Posted by 2002Z4CSS (Member # 1393) on :

I only waited 5 months to clean the car!LOL! I want to get ready for the Ontario Camaro Nationals again.I have been slacking more than ever. With back to back out of town car shows almost every weekend, and the "Honey Do List" that never ends...working 10-11 hours per day...when am I going to have time to clean the SS? You still beat me to it, and I've got to start layering on the Zaino again too. I can remember a few years back when I wouldn't eat or sleep until I completely cleaned the car, after a road trip. Waiting this long would have been unheard of. Posted by 2002Z4CSS (Member # 1393) on :

I hope this slacking is not part of getting older!I used to even wash my work beater 3-4 times a week. It has not been washed in 3 weeks LOL! Been too cold! Posted by JohnS (Member # 1073) on :

I hope not! Unfortunately, the priorities keep changing and the cars tend to get 2nd priority this time of year (at least Karen lets me keep the SS in the garage )

Yes ,it is cleaner than the day I bought the car. The underhood and underbody were covered in a white colored dust from the Las Vegas desert when the car was at the AC Delco Nationals NHRA event. Posted by 01ss87iroc (Member # 1763) on :

Greg, What is your method of cleaning? Products, implements, etc.?

I used a metal polish from Home Depot (out of all places)called MAAS that Ralph and Mary gave me a tube at the SLP CAD in Ohio. I loved the looks of Ralph and Mary's under hood aluminum parts. I was impressed that it looked like they had chromed everything!I did the exhaust pipes and muffler with the MAAS polish. Since there was no way to use a garden hose in 18 degree weather,I used some multi-purpose cleaner that my wife had under the sink. I think it was Windex. I followed up wiping a clean terry cloth rag with a little WD-40 to give everything a little coat of protection from any humidity while the car sits in storage. When I took delivery of the car last winter and was taking it to the same indoor show,I cleaned the whole bottom of the car with 2 big bottles of Armorall. It looked great then but better now.I did try and buff the exhaust pipes and muffler with a low speed buffer, but was limited to where I could get the buffer to fit in the tight places.Hec,I could barely get my hands in some of these spots.LOL! I really did spend 12 hours cleaning just the bottom of the car and all 4 wheels.

Here are a couple more pictures. In the 1st one I see where I missed above that muffler heat shield.
This tire in the picture is not on the leaning on the fender of the other Camaro...it is up against the tire.

Sure Greg, keeping rubbing it in with all those nice pictures. My conscience is starting to bother me under all this pressure. So I guess I'll have to force myself to start cleaning my SS and try to make it look as nice as yours. Posted by DanPazich (Member # 1352) on :
REALLY Nice!!! I saw the pics first over on SLP but I usually post here. Wish I had that kinda time...although I drive my car in rain, sleet and snow. Maybe someday..but I wouldn't consider my SS as a "show car". It's my daily driver. Looks good though to say the least!! Posted by 2002Z4CSS (Member # 1393) on :

You're right. Hibernation time is over, and it's time to get back into the car biz.
Thanks for waking me up! Posted by 2002Z4CSS (Member # 1393) on :

That is why they sell garage heaters! When the weather is too nice, most would rather drive their car than clean it. Posted by HuggerO (Member # 1085) on :
Greg, have you ever considered starting your own car cleaning business?
It looks GREAT (as usual)!!

Not really Steve. I am getting too old for laying under these cars. My son does detail work on the side.I barely have enough time keep my daily drivers clean plus I am way to picky to make any money off a detail job. Just like when I painted friends cars at home, they came out way to nice for what I was getting paid.I am too much of a perfectionist. Posted by MaryandRalph (Member # 244) on :
Greg, very nice job glad you like the MAAS, it seems to be one of the better cleaners out there. You did an awsome job cleaning. Now we have to get as motivated as you are! Take care.
