I have a concern with my wife's 1998 Catera. The right side dual climate control blows cold air all of the time. I have no GM Tech 2 scanner to active command the blend air door actuator. At first the trouble was very intermittent and now it is continous. The a/c control head appears to be working fine with temperature settings and all of the different modes do work. The drivers side dual climate control does work perfectly. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! [Smile]

Quick trade that car.... the catera was the worst car GM ever built! Every single one I've come across has had numerious electrical gremlins. And I never rag on a GM car so this is telling you something...... [Roll Eyes]

Sorry, We haven't address that complaint yet.
Yes, it is time to step up to the plate and purchase a CTS as the Catera has alot of problems.
I have heard they might be putting the LS1 engine into the CTS,might be worth while to hold out for a little while. [Smile]

Update! I spent a good part of Saturday taking the dash apart to gain access to the electric blend air door actuator for the passenger side climate control. With out a GM Tech 2 scanner,I had to resort to the old fashioned diagnosis. The electric motor was working but the actauator would not move. Took the actuator apart and found that the pinion gear on the motor was not set at the correct depth for the other gear in the actuator. I centered the gear on the armature shaft and the actuator works fine ,moving the blend air door. Bet I saved at least $200 on the part and several hundred on labor if I had taken the car into the Cadillac dealer. Glad I worked on it Saturday before the lightning and pouring rain. Sunday was a deep freeze! [Smile]

Yes Art,That is a big concern with tech now that just like to throw parts at vehicles. Most dealer techs now never even heard of rebuilding a starter or alternator like I did in the old days.
It is scary to think about dealership work these days. [Smile]

It helps that I am still a Master Certified Technician,even though I do not work on cars for a living anylonger.$30,000 or more in tools sure helps! I bet you are sure glad you married Steve so you never have to take your vehicles in for service. The things I miss is having access to a shop scanner,tire machine,wheel balancer,front end alignment rack and a hoist! [Smile]

You'd be suprised the empahsis GM is placing on training right now.... Tech's now have to take a lot of training on IDL. I beleive Ford has a similar system.... a la fordstar?

Yes,Ford does have Fordstar,but getting the dealer techs to use it and all of the online service messages is the problem.
