Got back from Agostino Racing Engines this afternoon and I definitely gotta tip my hat to these
guys (once again - 'cuz they've already done my motor!) for doing an absolutely 1st class job on this conversion.
It went a lot easier than I figured - only the lower ear on each spindle had
to be sawed off in order to make room for the brackets. The instructions and
pictures that I had been looking at were for an LT1 conversion, which needs
a bit more sawing, and as well, some grinding down on the front surface of
the spindle to allow the caliper to clear. Not necessary on LS1 cars. There
is lots of room for the caliper and rotor to clear on LS1 cars, and the
wheel itself (17") clears the caliper by more than 1/2".
Everything went so quickly, that I also had them do a complete brake fluid
flush, oil change and rear diff. fluid change.
The car feels good, but of course, I won't be able to really appreciate the
difference for awhile until I get the new pads and rotors seated in
properly.
The front wheels look great, with the big red calipers that say "Corvette"
sticking out like a sore thumb! Plus, the bigger rotors do a nice job of
filling up the empty space behind the spokes. Guess I'm gonna have to paint
the rears now to match! {:-)
A huge thank you to Wade, Stu, Barry and the guys at ARE,
Also to Dale Griffith and Bob Bishop for helping me out with the brackets
that make this conversion possible.
Can't wait for lapping on the 19th!!

Best regardSS,

Elie

Understood! I had asked Shirley to borrow a camera from one of our friends yesterday, but that just didn't happen. I will borrow a digital camera and post a couple pics of the finished product within the next few days. In the meantime, check out
http://www.mtfba.org/nashvillespeed/Brake%20Brackets/brakekit.htm
to get an idea of what was involved in doing this. Bear in mind that these pics look to be those of an LT1 car (definitely more hacking)

At least in Bowling Green! (if not before!) I'm hoping to post a couple of pics of my front wheels before the end of the weekend.
BTW, if you (or anyone else in southern/central Ontario/Quebec/New York might be interested in a fun weekend get-together, the Ottawa F-body club is hosting the 1st annual tri-city "Invasion" on the weekend of May 23-25. Check out http://ottawafbody.dyndns.org
for details and registration. There are no registration fees per se - you basically show up and just pay for what you participate in [Smile] Sat. night dinner or the drags at Luskville... whatever... hotel info will be available shortly.
The key to this event is the newly constructed Autodrome facility in Ottawa. The Ottawa, Toronto and Montreal F-body clubs are really hoping to get in on the ground floor here with this event. We're not sure if we're gonna be able to stage anything this year at that facility, but we would like to establish a "track" record... this facility has a dragstrip, road course and high - speed oval track... consider the possibilities!
The only other bit of info that I would add is that I personally know a lot the guys in these clubs and they are just a super bunch of people. If you are free that weekend, and might be looking for a bit of F-body cameraderie and a lot of fun, then don't be shy...
Geez, even Bocchicchio is gonna show up! [Cool]

Best regardSS,

Elie

We lived in the Ottawa area in the mid & late '80's, and went the Luskville Drag Strip many times. My most memorable run was in my '84 305 ci Caprice Coupe. I took my youngest son to the track for the first time. It was sanctioned event day, but the officials let me run the Caprice one time to give my son the 'feel' of a drag race. So there I was with my son in the passenger seat, and Karen watching from the stands. I went the whole nine yards - a nice burn out and then a pedal to the metal run (remember this is the unmodified Caprice grocery hauler). My son was very impressed and I was a very proud pappa, ...... until. We both went back up in the stands with Karen, still excited about our run, and Karen says, "Why didn't you floor it? Everybody in the stands was laughing because you were going so slow." Oh, the shame, the humiliation, from a 10' tall championship drag racer to a mere 6" tall mortal in 5 seconds. I'm not sure I could show my face at Luskville ever again. [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

Let's try this - it's not my car, since I haven't gotten my mitts on a camera yet, and I don't dare take the SS out of the garage with all this ice!!
This shot is of somebody else's conversion, but you can still see what the end result is with the Z06 calipers and larger rotors.

The link seems to work if you copy and paste it into your browser, rather than clicking on the link in the message.
I've given up trying to post pics fron Geocities! [Confused]
