Do you recall the what thickness (in mils) the paint protection film was that you used?? I found this web page (actually an Adobe doc) listing the 3M product, and they list 8 and 14 mil. I am curious if 14 might be too thick. (I'm planning on putting this on my rocker panels, ...permanently.) ...I'm guessing you used 8 mil, since this is what is listed in "strips".
Thanks, Kevin

Perfect timing for that question. I just bought more from Trimbrite, and I have the 3M stuff as well. I plan doing the car again before Skyline.
Neither product has the thickness listed. I can't tell by looking but it appears just a bit thicker than a piece of quality heavy bond paper.
It did do a great job for me last summer and fall.
I am currently working on bristel board templates for coverage on the complete front end. That will make it much easier to take off and re-apply new pieces.

i too would be courious about the thickness

Think I might give that a go myself. Want to keep the car great looking and shiny. Posted by Hawkeye (Member # 88) on :
Just installed the 3M stuff yesterday. It seems a little thinner than pro stripe, and scratched easily when I was squeegying out the bubbles. Now I have to Zaino the 3M stuff. A few coats should hide most of the scratches.

Hey did you buy the prefab'd 3m stuff? I might look into that myself for next winter, I'll have to take pics of my poor front bumper

Yep - I traced out the pattern, so if I remove it I can replace with new pieces of the pro-stripe.
Pro-stripe seems a little thicker. I Zainoed out most of the scratches. A few more coats, then some sun on the remaining bubbles and it's getting ready to roll to Skyline! Posted by RagSS (Member # 1127) on :

Hawkeye, is there a PN on the 3M stuff you have?? 3M Pn#84906 is 8 mils. Since the 14 mil stuff seems to only come in 20 yard lengths, I suspect you have the 7' (ie. 84") strips, ...which is 8mils. I'm probably going to order some today. ...Now Chuck, why would you think you are 'butting in'?, ...not at all. I saw that "Ivincashield" product, ...it looks interesting...
