in the search for a winter beater [Frown] .As some remember I was thinking about the H2 till I saw the insurance [Mad] .Next it was a 2500HD (still considering) . Now I'm looking at the Yukon. WILL SOMEBODY slap up upside the head or order a vehicle for me I'm tired of changing my mind [Eek!] .

Need to place an order soon as I will pass the window to get a 2003 into the fleet.Dealers have till May14 and I figure I have less time. I am leaning one way BUT the wife brought up a good question "What about Resale".

Any ideas a Yukon or a 2500HD [Confused] .I don't want a Duramax to much chance of getting regular gas in it and having to sell it in a year or two might turn potential buyers away. There is a chance I might keep it longer though and get the wife the Vert she wants Don't know.

Here you go! -
Now get back to basics. Make a list.
Who's it for.
Who's going to drive it.
Are you ever really going off road.
Are you going to tow with it.
Etc. etc. you know the routine.

Oh don't I [Roll Eyes] , Every year or 2 .

It's for me but its gone in less than 2 years (silly policy of GM's). Around here people want the 4x4 because they think that it handles better in the snow and ice. They want the towing to take the boats to the lake. And they want a newer vehicle for about 15K. Its to the point that I look at the auctions now instead of giving the public a chance, well I stick a sign in the window for about 60 days. I have found better resale on a vehicle with a lot of goodies on it no matter if the potential buyer needs them or not .

Side note:

Matt.......$32K for a SLT ($46k sticker) if not less with incentives. THANKS for the help [Smile]

Thats exactly what I do Ed. I make a list and see what it will be used for, whose driving, the needs, etc., etc. I truly enjoy my Tahoe and have owned it 7 years now but may soon be in the market for a Monte Carlo SS with the Supercharged motor [Big Grin] .

Good Luck and happy motoring.

A list does me no good as I Must replace the vehicle within 2 years because the wife gets corperate cars every 90 days.GM states that we have to do this or risk her loosing the corperate car.

What I need to do is to figure what I will be able to sell when the time comes and people will want to buy. But I want to be comfortable while I drive it also.

I did have the chance to drive a 1500HD today ( a perk of corp cars U can get 1 for a day to try) Found out that it is 3 inches to long for the garage [Frown] . The Quadra steer is different. It does make quite a smaller turning radius whin engaged/Dont know if the 5k price for it is worth it though.

If I do go with the pick up I will have to go with the extended cab and not the crew as I wanted to.Not sure in several years if people will want the extended whin the crew is available.

I'll give you my prespective on whats "hot" from a field rep....

Duramax.... starting to cool down dealers can get these free flow so its not the issue like it was 12months ago. Plus I hate the smell of desiel and you don't ever want to spill fuel on your shoes....

Quadra steer right now has a LOT of incentives on it 2 or 3 grand if memory is correct. So it doesn't cost 5. I like it and at some point plan to drive one. Great for trailer towing, it hasn't caught on yet.... but that may change. If you let a woman drive it shes sold....

Can't go wrong with a crew cab p/u. Right now thats one of the hottest things dealers can't get their hands on....

Hummer WAS hot.... I'm hearing they are starting to pile up, sales are slowing. I heard of a dealer in Texas that has over 90! Even the dealer I call on has several on the ground. I haven't seen this since they came out...

Youkon would be a good logical choice based on the Michigan mentality....

I wouldn't worry about resale in Michigan.... there is none back there at least thats what I rememeber when I was back there. I've been gone for only a couple of years so I doubt its changed much. Everybody and thier brother works for the auto industry so the used car market sucks.... now if you took the car out of state to say a family member living somewhere else and sold it....

Seriously though... your not going to buy it are you? Have you thought about leasing... Im not sure if GM has any good lease deals right now but it makes more sense for what your doing (IE trade every 2 years).

One perk of a work related driver is not the need to buy something every two years.... plus I'm exempt anyways.... I'm single. [Big Grin]

So you like that website eh?

One last thought.... for a price leader if your going to sell it. Consider getting one with the 4800 and getting it somewhat stripped, no leather etc. If you have a payment buyer they might snatch it up.... Only problem is everyone "thinks " they need the 5300. The 48 has more power then the old 350 did, plus you'll get better milage. Get it with 410's and it will be quick off the line.... just a thought.

Another choice would be a decladed avalanche. I'm driving an older one with body armor and I love it! Best riding truck GM makes. Plus the decladed one saves about 800 bucks I think. I have to turn mine in here soon.... I would get another in a heartbeat!

MM....

A lot of good points . The duramax and the wife driving it for 90 days It would be in the shop more than not having the gas tank emptied [Roll Eyes] .The Quadra steer I only have one word for it..........SWEEEEEEEEET. She had a crew home the other day ( 3 inches to long for the garage [Frown] ) and it does make a lot of difference turning by FEET.

Still undecided about the Yuke or a 2500HD. Looking at the extended not the crew though. HD's are a little harder to come by in the area Yuks are plentiful on the lots. Leaning to the HD need to order to fleet by the 1st to try and got an '03 (year end incentives and I believe anothr 5% because of last years model from the general).

Leasing she has tried to push me to that but from what I came up with it would run between $300/$500 a month for a lease. While paying up front I average $150 per month. That is taking the difference of what I paid (inc tax & all) and what I sold it for then deviding it by how long I've had it for.

When I sold my Envoy the difference was $68 from what I paid and sold it for not bad for having it for a year.Selling them has not been a problem as I can take them to the Dealer only auction in the area.I average $1500 more than a local dealer will give me
[Big Grin] .

I have always liked the way the GMC looks over the Chevy though but the Avalanche would make a good choice.

Lucky your Single and not having to go through all the BS that goes along with selling a vehicle. The web sight is great [Cool] .

Actually HD's are not that plentful.... so that might be a good choice. I'm suprised that you are able to come out ok selling your rigs. I have heard a lot of horror stories of people trying to sell late model stuff. Everytime I go back I pick up the paper and look at all the "cheap" latemodel stuff......

Im with you I like the GMC front better.... but I'm a chevy guy at heart and the new front is growing on me. Like I said after you drive an avalanche and get used to the concept of the mid gate you'll love it.... Im the guy that likes a SUV but only needs a PU part of the time. It rides 100 times better then the Z71 Serria I had a few cars back.....

Im suprised about the lease not penciling out... like I said everytime I go back I look in the paper for gigles and grins and can't believe the low supported lease's for employees.

Good luck with your tough decision..... [Wink]
