...block.
There have been many threads on the various boards about there being LS6 blocks in our Fbody's, however I stumbled across this one on CamaroZ28.com ...LS1 or LS6
...VERY interesting, with many good links. It's long, but if you have the time check it out [Cool]

...If the "bullseye" method is correct, ...my '02 SS (Aug. '01 build) has the LS1 block [Frown]

You may have an LS6 block but don't expect performance gains over the LS1 block.

There is an article on this in the July issue of GM High-Tech Performance.

Hi there!
I'm sorry but I got in late here. First, would it be possible for a 2000 SS to have a Z06 block, and second, how do you tell one from another?

Posted by Hawkeye (Member # 88) on :

Look at the front passenger side of the block. There is a leading edge that may have a circle
or "bullseye" shape, like a BB hitting a glass.
If it's there then it's LS1, if no circle then
it's LS6. If you follow the SLP thread there
are photos posted of each block.

Another #12561168 LS6 block.

Funny thing. I was told by reliable sources LAST YEAR that mine was an LS6 block. I stopped telling people that because I was ridiculed. My informer told me that all LEs made in 2002 took advantage of the stronger block. I'm not saying it's true, but I have yet to hear from a 35th LE owner with a build date in 02 that has not identified its block as a 12561168 LS6.

BTW, mine has no bullseye. But I wasn't certain until I verified the casting # because the block isn't as dark as I was lead to believe an LS6 would look.

So thats that, pretty happy.

I have the Bullseye LS1 block in my 01 SS,
but im not surprised the way it drinks
oil. People with the LS6 blocks, I belive,
have little or no oil consumption.

Luck o the draw i 'spose... [Frown]

Anyone know the final story on this? Are the production dates correct? reason for asking is that our car is a 1999 and has no bullseye markings on the block. I thought the timeline for this was well after 99 production???Anyone??

You have cleared the first hurdle. Now its time to put her up on a lift and check the casting #. I have yet to hear of anyone without the "bullseye" casting marks ending up with an LS1 block. But the casting # puts any doubt to rest. Good luck. [Cool]

Could someone take a picture of the "bullseye" so I can know what to look for?

Have no bullseye on my engine block so it looks like I cleared the first hurdle as well. Where do you look for the casting number? [Wink] [Confused]

...check the links in the 1st post of this thread, ...there are pics etc. that detail location of casting, and photos of 'bullseye'...

The first pic is an LS1 casting, the second is an LS6 casting. Kevin is correct, look through his link at the beginning of this thread, there is all the info you will need.

The strange thing is, I have seen untouched Z06 with the bullseye.

That may change everything we thought we knew about the "Bullseye".

I've been looking for this topic...thanks!!! Need to check the hubby's new car.

What are the casting numbers that we should be looking for to find out if it is a LS6 vs. LS1???

Thanks in advance for the information! [Big Grin]
